That's not enough to "forgive" him though.
Forgiveness can *only* come when he improves his Fing shooting instead of hiding like a coward as he's been doing his entire career.
I would still hack him if he were shooting 60%. That ain't good enough either, not in the clutch of a playoff game.
It's not just that Simmons is missing free throws here. It's also who
isn't shooting the ball in his place. The opposing defense is dictating that Joel Embiid, Tobias Harris, Seth Curry, etc., all DO NOT shoot, and instead the shots will be taken by THE poorest shooter on the team.
And that's in the clutch of hotly contested and very close playoff games!
That's an incredibly powerful weapon opposing teams have against this team, and it all sits in the lap of Ben Simmons's ineptitude.
Imagine if the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl a couple years ago could've had the power to take the ball out of Patrick Mahomes's hands in the fourth quarter and make somebody
else on the Chiefs throw passes. That's about what's happening here.
Imagine how Joel Embiid feels here, wanting to take shots in the clutch and help this team win. Instead he's deprived of the ability to shoot the ball and has to stand there and watch Ben Simmons miss free throws and make offensive possessions in the clutch totally useless. Imagine what that does to team morale and cohesion.
