There's 0 reason to trade like Horford, RG3 and some picks for Simmons if the owners don't agree to pay a LOT of luxury tax so we could resign Marcus Smart the following year.
And between Hayward leaving, us trading for Fournier who is expiring, then trading away a #16 pick for some minor cap space in Horford, Ainge quiting. It's pretty obvious which way the wind is blowing when it comes to the owners wallets.
To be fair, the pandemic hit everyone hard and they're probably just looking for 3-5 years to catch their breath, have the asset appreciate in value, and then decide if they want to go all in or sell the franchise in the open market.
