Are we sure Cade is the pick?
I can't sleep because I'm still wired but now that I've had time to process it a little bit, a dark thought came into my mind that Weaver might fall in love with Mobley and pass on Cade because of Killian at point guard as the lead facilitator and his, admitted, affection for centers.
In fairness, I think it's a very very slight possibility but I can't shake the feeling that it is a possibility nonetheless.
I know we have a lot of draft lottery threads but I thought this deserved it's own thread. So can you guys talk me down from the ledge? haha

Re: Are we sure Cade is the pick?
I trust Weaver and his scouts, if they really really felt like someone else is the pick, then so be it.
I would say its extremely likely Cade is the pick though
also fwiw i think if they were trading down Green would be the target

I’m 99% sure Cade is the first pick. I’m only 75% sure we’ll be the one making it. Weaver is Weaver.

Re: Are we sure Cade is the pick?
Hell yeah he is the pick. Hes going to be on the low end Middleton, middle end Tatum, high end Luka from reading most scouts takes. Holliginer projects him more of a Middleton/Tatum type but Cade himself mirrors his game as Luka. Great thing about Cade is with a guy of his size 6'8 7foot wingspan with his outside shooting ability were looking at a really high floor plus and hes got a really nice ceiling as a prospect.
"Cunningham is the clear No. 1 player in this draft, a 6-foot-8 primary playmaker who profiles as a dynamic All-NBA mismatch nightmare. If you need him to play the point, he can do that. His time at Montverde Academy showed he is a smart, unselfish passer who can make all of the necessary reads. If you need him to play as a scoring threat, though, he can do that too. Cunningham was the primary scoring option this past season for Oklahoma State, carrying a substandard roster to an extremely impressive season while averaging 20 points per game and shooting over 40 percent from 3. On top of it, he’s a good, multi-positional defender who always knows where he needs to be in help and in switches. Cunningham is the total package, one of the safest players to enter the draft in a while."

I echo the thought that "consensus #1 pick" means that analysts and idiots like us on the internet are just parroting what other people have said and what we've read. If the Pistons scouts decide someone else is the pick, that's who I want them to take. Consensus #1 picks include Fultz over Tatum. My only concern would be if there's value to be gained from trading down if that's the case.

Re: Are we sure Cade is the pick?
Can never be sure until the pick is made but Cade has been universally regarded as the #1 pick for a while.
The fact his skillset actually fits so well is a added bonus.
Mobley, Green & Suggs would fit too but it's a little bit different with Cade considering how the game is played now.
You need multiple playmakers on the floor - Cade is arguably the best playmaking prospect in this Draft.
You need shooters all over the floor - I believe Cade shot above 40% from the college 3.
You need size and length all over the floor - Cade has that.
Rest easy man.
The #1 pick is cause for celebration

Jalen Green is darkhorse. Green is dynamic scorer and reports of Weaver being big fan of Green.

Re: Are we sure Cade is the pick?
Cade is a bigger, slower SGA. The less athletic part seems damning until you understand that athleticism is only a very small part of his game. He’s so shifty, good length, good shot, great vision, good defense. So much to work with. I love Green, but Cade is the correct pick unless you trade down with Houston and rob them blind with additional draft compensation.

Re: Are we sure Cade is the pick?
I'm not upset if the Pistons end up with Green or Mobley with a lot of extra draft capital attached. Only Weaver knows how much it would take. I fully expect Cade to be a Piston, though.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

I've been thinking green, but I'm back on the cade team. too versitile and has the outside shot. I'm wondering if he would be big enough to play pf.

Mobley doesn't impress me and isn't the type of big man center than weaver likes. Mobley would be more of a pf, but he weights the same or lighter than cade. after cade, aw who knows. I've not paid any real attention and will trust weaver to make the right calls.

After last years roller coaster in the first round, Weaver may be the most boring GM this year.

Green is my favorite in this draft class...but that's purely based on the excitement he could bring on every play.
Unless we get a king's ransom (to trade down to #2), Weaver should and will just draft Cade.

Re: Are we sure Cade is the pick?
Are WE sure? No. But Weaver better be damn sure, that much I can tell you.
I absolutely wanted Green at #2 but I damn sure wanted Cade at #1. No question, no debate, 100%. I wasn't sold on him being a potential generational talent during the season, but watching him in the tournament made me decide that while maybe still not a generational Jordan/Lebron, he's as close as you can reasonably expect to get. Point being, if you get a shot at him, you take him. Period.
Plus there's no reason whatsoever to try to get an assumed "more" for him by trading the pick. The Pistons are in a great position right now. There's no need to rush. As I've always said, during a rebuild you get to a point where you have to stop for a minute and let things play out. That time for the Pistons is right now, IMO.

Yeah, no doubt. He'll have the phone in the draft room hooked up to a messaging service that answers, says "Hello--Troy Weaver of the Detroit Pistons...no." And hangs up.

I think you could argue that Green has a higher ceiling. However I think Cade’s floor as a player is just so much higher and he has a high ceiling.
It’s hard for me to imagine a scenario where Cade isn’t at least an all star calibre player, where as I could see Green being anything from a 6th man spark plug guy to an all nba guy and everything in between.
Overall though, I’ll favour Cade
