He has shown he can be a great front facing media personality like his time in the Jump. I don’t get it, all the championship era guys from Kerr, to Wennington, to Kukoc all freakin’ love him; then the only thing the public gets from him is this tabloid weirdness? Thought he was taking the high road after the Last Dance stuff by just talking to Jordan in private, but I guess he was just biding his time to air 25 year old dirty laundry.

Toni Kukoc had a good point saying guys like Jokic and Doncic had far more clear paths to the NBA BECAUSE guys like Kukoc blazed trails and made it so those guys had less scrutiny. He accomplished everything a player who was not yet in the NBA could have accomplished and made an impact his rookie season. Don’t know what else the guy could have done to make Pip see he was legitimate and not just some great white hype in that situation.

pippen hated Kukoc because Pippen was the apple of Krause's eye, then Krause loved Kukoc and Pippen felt slighted. He was Jerry's next great find, and Krause was also trying to trade Pippen too. If not for that internal drama I think Scottie and Toni would have been fine honestly. It was more like a sibling rivalry than anything real. I think my favorite interview in the Last Dance is Jordan laughing at Pippen's comments when Pip said that Kukoc should never play in the NBA. It was hilarious.

I think my biggest beef with Pippen is how he just is always the victim it seems.

The whole contract dispute and him bad mouthing the Bulls after always rubbed me wrong. Reinsdorf (who is a prick) very clearly told Scottie to not sign it. He told him what would happen and Scottie ignored him, then turned it on him and blamed Jerry. Now you can blame Jerry for a lot but that wasn't one of the things. Because of him not listening to advice, he literally screws his teammates, delays surgery and misses the beginning of the season. Fine, after that though Jerry gives him a sign and trade to get him paid, which was the right move, but still wasn't something he had to do. Scottie then goes on to bad mouth the Bulls all across the league after that... Until he is all broken and Jerry signs him and gives Scottie another payday. Reinsdorf sucks but if I had a guy badmouthing me for years I am not giving him another payday. Whatever he did. Then he goes and hires him as an ambassador and gives him another payday. The whole while Pippen made Jerry look like the bad guy, which IN THIS CASE he wasn't. I mean Jerry is but not in this case. Then while working for the team he clowns them on TV? That whole story line has always bugged me about him. It's not just that though. His rep is not that of the nicest person. This all started before LArsa, who he married in 1997. I think that whole situation didn't help him either. Still though he is my all time favorite Bull.

MJ is a prick, but you know what kind of prick MJ is. He an Alpha and likes everyone to know it. Pippen is different. He is truly oblivious of how much of an ass he is I think.

Scottie is also one of my favorite players of all time. That doesn't mean I have to agree with all his opinions.

The guy was really good, and its a Gm's job to put together a wining team without over paying players. Hopefully a good GM gets a few deals along the way. Scottie became one of those deals, and helped the Bulls win championships, He also has every right to believe he should have been payed more.

Know-one forced him to sign the contract. I can't' do a great job on a contract I signed, and then say pay me more! I could ask, but should not be upset if its not given. The best I can do is perform the job I already agreed to do, and once its over negotiate new terms.

If Scottie was so sure of himself, he should have bet on himself like Butler did. He wasn't. and chose early security.

Bitch at your agent, Bitch at your advisors, Don't be Bitch and bitch about a contract that was signed.

---------------------------------------

I once took a job just to get in the door. I worked my rear end off to prove my worth. I first started out slow with a large learning curve. Numbers wise over the course of a year I became one of the top three performers in my position, and upon my next review period I negotiated a new contract.

Yea after seeing The Last Dance, Scottie had a cry about how he was portrayed, but I'm thinking Scottie, you admitted it all in the doco! How can you mad about how you made yourself look!? Especially when it's all true!?

Yea MJ is an ****, but he's the good kind. He pushed everyone to be their best. Especially Scottie.

Yes without Scottie MJ doesn't win as many titles, but without MJ, Scottie doesn't become the player he was

I think to get to this level of physical competition and success, almost every who reaches it has to have some narcissistic qualities. There are a few exceptions. but for the most part I believe it is a driving factor.

"I mean, how can you even do a job like this, and at this level. If there is not a preconceived emotion you're better than everyone else" The players who do not feel this way fade out of the league.

Every day you know there are thousands of guys who want to take your spot, any chance they get.

-----------------------------------------------------

When I take it job, it physically hurts me when I know deep down inside someone within my team or the little world I surround myself in can do it better. I think we all feel this to some extent, and all want to be the best. We all know people who take it to a extreme. That's what it takes to really succeed in any position. You have to take time and prepare, and know you are better than any of the alternatives.

Most NBA players are on a whole different level of competitiveness than most of us will ever encounter in our own jobs.

I know his one son recently passed, he had another child who died really young too right? For all his bad comments that is still tragic. I think that Odom went off the rails more than he would have from his kid passing of SIDS.

I don't know if this has been shared already, but GQ interviewed Scottie Pippen.

https://www.gq.com/story/scottie-pippen-nba-bulls?utm_source=pocket-newtab

Scottie Pippen Has Something to Say
The six-time NBA champion has a new bourbon. And a memoir coming soon. And some candid thoughts about Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Phil Jackson, Kevin Durant, Ben Simmons, and more.

That was some good stuff. He should likely put out a line of bitters to go with his whiskey lol.

I like that he calls Phil racist but yet he can just say Barkley never beat up no black guy only some white boys and that’s not racist? I’ll say this as I expected he is becoming a hot take celebrity and that’s all good but he is going a little hard. Just calling Jrue the little guard, Giannis trashing, all the humiliating talk. He is going way harder “personally” on these guys. It’s interesting. He will sell some books.

I know that trolls are popular these days, the way to get clicks is to be Stephen A. Smith or Skip Bayless by trashing people, but that's not my thing. Pip, you're now in my SAS/Skip bucket. When I see you, I will flip the channel.

I thought his answer to this question was odd. I get his point, but what he says is so money/fame driven.

Do you think you could’ve been an even bigger star?

Financially, I could’ve been a different star. But to have the longevity that I’ve had from a public standpoint? Nothing replaces wins. That’s what puts you on such a stage of having this forever phase that people remember. That comes from winning. That’s not coming from just being in the league 17 years. It comes from being on the forefront for 17 years. Being on people’s television set, year in and year out, playing for a title. I could’ve went and been financially better off for the moment. But winning has given me financial stability for a long time.

Since the pandemic, I watch First take (which is SAS's primary show) every day. SAS is a million times better than I thought he was when I only saw him in small doses. He actually trashes people pretty sparingly and while he is loud, his views are actually very intelligent and reasonable. He's definitely not the national Joe Cowley or anything, just out there hating.

I've disliked very strongly the little bit of Skip Bayless that I've seen.

I've watched a pretty good dose of all the ESPN shows in the pandemic, and for sports talk I'd rank them something like:
1st tier:
First Take (SAS / Max Kellerman) - Great debates, good insight, good guests

Jalen & Jacoby (Jalen Rose / David Jacoby) - A lot less debate, mostly Jacoby setting up Rose, good mix of humor, Rose is pretty insightful and has pretty unique takes

2nd tier:
Get up (Mike Greenberg and rotating cast), it's professional but a bit bland at times

The Jump (Rachel Nichols and rotating cast) - Similar to Get up, it's good / professional but just a bit bland at times

Pardon the Interruption (Mike Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser) - Not much meat to it due to the short run length, takes lack much analysis because of that, nice mix of humor/analysis otherwise but just not as much depth as I'd like, that said not an apples to apples with Get up / First Take which are 2 hours long in that sense.

3rd tier:
Highly Questionable - Was a tier higher when they had Dan LeBetard, but haven't found their grove without him IMO. It's mostly a humorous take on things, but the new group (which also rotates) just doesn't play off each other as well.

Keyshawn, Jwill, and Zubin - Just falls short for me in all areas and the hosts don't really seem to play off each other all that well. Probably hurts in that I don't really think Keyshawn Johnson knows what he's talking about a lot of the time, some really fundamental lack of knowledge about basketball and they just butcher the hockey (which I don't care for hockey but just don't bring it up at all if you don't want to / know how to talk about it).

Outlived it's time:
Around the horn - Just really bad sports humor mostly

SAS isn't the hater he is portrayed as, he does absolutely go for the clickbait though to keep his ratings up. He has evolved into talking head though, he absolutely knows his job.

Greenberg is as dull as it comes really. I never liked him and Golic though either, they seem to have such fake antagonism. Greenie enunciates well and has good cadence and that is why he works so much. His mechanics are good but his insight is boring.

I cannot stand JWill to be honest. I don't like any of his takes at all. Keyshawn was way more interesting as a malcontent player than he is as as a nice host IMHO. I think you nailed it they don't have enough personality to play off each other effectively.
