This is one of the reasons I don't want to hustle Wiseman and this year's two picks out of the building. Yes, they may take a while to develop, but there's also a strong chance we don't draft above the late twenties for several years to come, and the idea of throwing all these lottery picks away for a veteran "star" when we already won three titles and had five straight finals feels like a bad idea.

I can only speak for myself, but I'm going to be a Ws fan until I die and I don't want another twenty+ years in the wilderness after Steph and Draymond retire. Been there. Hated that.

I would honestly rather risk coming up short of winning a title in the next two years than abandon the future. That doesn't mean not improving the team, but it means not throwing everything into NOW at the expense of three years from now. I know that seems like blasphemy to some fans, but I take the long view.

I think it’s definitely risky to trade all the young picks and talent for vets, because it could be like hitting a brick wall. A franchise without cap space or development players is basically stuck, I think that’s where the Blazers and Jazz are at. At some point in the season we might end up on a short list for a star player and have the best mix of young talent to offer.

But on the other hand I do think the current vets could net some great picks at some point. If we stagnated I think Curry, Thompson, Green, and Wiggins could bring in quite a haul. We are lucky we have talent to acquire a stock pile of picks if needed.

Ideally everything bridges and blends like the Spurs were able, at some point our vets are supporting players to a new young star player. If West was around I would have a ton of faith, the guy just has a great eye for talent and building teams.

Regardless of where we finish next year if Wisemam doesn’t develop and the two lottery picks struggle it will be a little eye opening for Warriors hoop heads to look at the future.

He is intriguing but I really worry about him getting played off the court on defense. I think he could only play in drop coverage and that really limits you on defense. Think about Jokic who is longer and bigger and the Suns just put him in the pick and roll and got any midrange shot they wanted. The fact that he is 6'9"(I believe) without a plus wingspan is concerning and he is not going to bully his way in the NBA paint.

Lastly, just to warn you, I think Kevin O'Connor had Killian Hayes as his top pick in last years draft.

Make it happen Bob. This guy getting minutes with our starters doing screen hand offs would be perfect.

He would have to be good enough on offense to force the opponent to match up with size, and he'd have to be playing with switch capable players. If your bigs can score more points per possession than the opponents wings can you are okay. That said his defense supposedly took some strides late in their season.

With the 14th pick I'm fine taking more of a shot than at 7 where I want more of a sure thing, even if they are going to take a little time to get there.

I much prefer Barnes fit. Barnes can handle, and can pass, as well as defend at a high level. Garuba is raw in every aspect of offense.

I must say I agree with you on like 90% of what you wrote.

Let me ask you, what do you think of Jalen Johnson and Ziaire Williams?

I saw you didn't mention them. Didn't they caught your laser eyes?

On Johnson I would need someone I trust to sign off on his mentals. I just wonder if he’s a prima donna. He’s got all the tools.

Should have mentioned Zaire, but was going off the top of my head and forgot him. I like Zaire a lot.
But he had a very rough experience with Covid related issues. The PAC 12 was also kind of a joke this year. He had a year much like Wiseman where it was disjointed for multiple reasons.

He needs to fill out and get his mature man body, but his height is legit. His shooting stroke is legit. He reminds me of Reggie Miller, but not sure if he’ll have that type of motor. He could rise up a few years from now and be a great player. He just needs time.

Garuba is a good passer. Is a better defender and rebounder. Barnes is a better handler but I don’t think he’s a better shooter. Barnes is a better creator

Raw indicates there are skills to build off of. He's not raw. He's not a project. He's limited in what he can do, he's a C with the offensive skillset of Looney, except he can get off the ground quicker and is a far better defender.

Barnes and Garuba are similar in size and little else, but you wouldnt want to draft both because thats 2 guys that cant shoot. Barnes is more Iguodala, Garuba is more Bogut.

Both have fit question marks for different reasons.. issue with Barnes is we'd ideally put him at PF, but obviously can't. Put him at the 3 and we're hurting for shooters, unless Wiseman becomes a sniper (and a starter). Garuba is ideally a 5, but probably in the Bogut role of 20mpg tops. But most importantly with Garuba, he's very useful in the PnR, which is where our limited Cs have thrived in the past, and his defense is day-1 stuff. But he's still only 230 lbs, and that would still be our bulkiest big, which might be problematic

before the NCAA season Ziaire was a top 5 projected pick and like you mentioned his had a really rough year. He and BJ Boston probably fell more than any other prospects during the year and I am curious to see where they end up and how they turn out. It would be really tempting to take Ziaire at 14 if he is still on the board but I am getting the feeling that some team will nab him before then. I really like his ability to create his own shot off the dribble and he has a really nice step back to create space. Nice length and defensive instincts too. If he could get a little stronger and finish after contact he will be a pretty nice player.

I know everyone wants to consider Barnes a wing but his inability to shoot makes him have to play a big position on offense. The issue is that he doesn’t really do big things on defense like rebound or rim protect.

Garuba is a small 5 but can guard 1-5, and actually rebounds and rim protects.

Mylie10 wrote:Top 4:

Cade I love and think his game will translate so much better in the pros. His team wasn’t good around him at all, and the offense they ran was crap.

Mobley: stud. Best big man defender in the draft. Better than Wiseman overall mostly based on feel for the game. Can shoot it too.

Green: Uber athlete who I was really skeptical of prior to playing in the G. He’s so slight of frame but the dude shot good numbers against grown men. He’s gonna be so dynamic.

Suggs: so solid and poised for a Freshman. Really good size and can play defense and shoot it. Good all around game, love him.

Kuminga: Has the body, and projects to be a good defender, and actually at this stage of his game is probably his best attribute. He projects really well, but he’s more scary because his shooting numbers weren’t very good.

After that we can bounce around.

Scottie Barnes: longgggggg. Might be the most versatile defender in the draft. Can pick guys up full court in a press situation and can switch seamlessly to guard all five spots on the floor. Don’t let the production numbers get you down, because his coach at Florida State runs a legit 10 man rotation and everybody suffers minutes wise. He played some point but is definitely a playmaker. Good athlete too. Not a great shooter by any means though, so there’s the one red flag. Shot looks ok though? Squares up pretty good.

Mitchell: I’ve already gone on about him. But 205 lbs, best on ball defender in the draft. Good distributor at 5.5 assists versus 2 turnovers. Shared pg duties with Butler so he could have had way more assist totals. Fastest in college with the ball in his hands.

Moody: Good length, good defense, up and coming shooter? Versatile. What’s not to like? Just doesn’t knock me over.

Wagner: see Moody……and shrunk in the tournament. That Bothers me.

Sengun: love him and starting to love him more. Shade under 6’9” barefoot. 240. Mans league MVP. 20/10. Shot looks good and moving his game out to the three should open up his bread and butter inside game. Elite footwork already. Really strong base for his age. Really good vision and passer. Had some sneaky flash passing as well. I don’t care that we have Wiseman, this kid looks legit and we could have a Sabonis Turner type of frontline only I think Wiseman will be so much better than Turner, but maybe Sengun only gets close to what Sabonis is. But same mold.

Bouknight: Great scorer. Red flag is the 3 point percentage. Something like 29%. People are trying to tell me he fixed a hitch in his jumper, and he had to do to much for his team….maybe, but I get scared of lye riders in the draft who we’ve seen a ton of game footage on. To me he’s redundant with Poole because neither one is a pg.

Kispert: I was really on Kispert last year before he dropped out of the draft. Back then he was really late first or second round. I’m reluctant to take him at 7 but if we got him at 14 I’d be fine with it. I just think Klay and Jessup make his game a bit redundant.

Duarte: Older but who cares. He’s a great catch and shoot guy with a quick release. He would fit in right away, but again, another Klay and Jessup guy. But Duarte might be a decent defender. I like him.

Juzang: later pick here, but dude has the never quit grit game going on. Pretty versatile as well. I love competitors.

Ayo Dosunmu: guy is getting the shaft as far as draft spot projections go. Severely underrated. He does a bit of everything. Dude averaged 20, 6,6…..no joke. And was a Finalist for College player of the year. I don’t get it. Dude can play three positions. I’m in love with his game. He also has a great video you can watch of his heroics late in games. Cool as ess.

Shariffe Cooper: measured out was better at the combine than I would have thought. He is a TRUE POINT GUARD. He’s got sick handles and can finish. Not a great shooter, but it doesn’t look bad. Played at Auburn. He’s underrated.

Springer: six five point guard with good handle. He’s good, just something isn’t grabbing me about him. I don’t see leader. But I could be way off.

Garza: Poor guy would be top 5 in the draft 15 years ago. He is a legit tank. Measured out at 6’10” barefoot. And the widest of wide bodies. Pick and pop with him would be deadly. Really good post and midrange game. Ok defender great rebounder. Just slow as molasses. But I’m the right system with the right team, everyone will say, how come this guy didn’t get drafted higher.

Ayayi: he was mentioned by Reggae. Solid solid second round guy. Total team player. Does a bit of everything and he’s six foot five. Good defender too. Really pesky good hands. Super smart.

Don’t know much about Garuba, other than a really good defender already. Good man body. Need to see him in some games though.

Giddy: he has great vision and passing skills and is tall. Good handles and feel. Did well this year, but dude couldn’t make his Olympic team. That’s a red flag for me, because if Lamelo was Australian he’d be on that team hands down. So the comparison is kind of weak except for size and passing. Needs to learn to shoot.

Gonna take a break now. Lol

Mylie, great write-up. I agree with virtually everything here.

One note - while I haven’t seen them officially updated, it was confirmed that (Sharife) Cooper’s height was mis-represented and that he is actually in the 6’0 - 6’1” range without shoes. That approximately 3 inch difference will probably cost him 10-15 draft spots. If he was actually 6’3”+ without shoes, he’d probably be a lottery pick, but my bet is that he goes late in the first round (or even later) now.

Honestly, I think he’ll be a great value, I think of him as a super-charged Ish Smith who gets to the line a ton. I don’t think he can really play next to Curry (due to defensive challenges), but otherwise one could argue that he could be a stealth pick for the Warriors at 14, because his ability to create for both himself and others is probably at the top end of anybody in the draft.
If I don't have anything funny to say, can I still have a signature?

Me too.

That makes 3 of us.
