They can have Knox and our 2021 firsts.
Really?
If we max Sexton, that puts us out of reach to sign anyone really outright going forward ( which is fine, trades are always an option). but that puts a cap on us. Typically a team does not trade a franchise point guard for that sort of package. So what do we know that they dont?
My big caveat with all things Sexton is that Thibs needs to sign off. He needs to be confident that he can coach Sexton. If he doesn't then we don't strike. The other big difference is that the Cavs have a glut of excellent young guards and may grab another in the draft whereas we have a clear hole and a coach that values a scoring point. Then we have a year to try him out.
If 19 and 21 can get Sexton that means no other team was willing to pay more and max the kid. It reminds me of when we got Jamal Crawford for Frank Williams among other minor assets. Yeah it didn't seem like we were paying much, but we really didn't get what we were hoping for and ultimately it cost us more that it cost them.
