I think you overstate the issues on offense. Barnes would be playing the 5 spot so he'd fit into the dunker spot (Even if he guarding others you still play him as a 5 on offense.) With Barnes and Siakam on the team you have a couple bigs who love to run the fast break so you'd get lots of transition points off steals and rebounds. Then in the half court sets Barnes plays that pick and roll game either as the ball handler to get him attacking the hoop or as the screener who operates out of the foul line extended.
OG and Fred are legit three point threats and Siakam hits enough that teams have to respect him. Add a fourth guy who hits threes like a Trent Jr when you playing small, and a Kelly Olynyk when you playing big and you have plenty of scoring power.
Also you don't draft Barnes or Suggs for that matter based on our roster. You draft they guy you think has the highest upside. If Barnes or Kuminga are guys the scouting staff really believe can be elite then you just draft them period. I trust the raps scouting staff more than any mock draft.
You can see the Raptors are interested in Ben Simmons so it aint crazy that the Raptors would be interested in a similar player in Barnes. they either want Simmons or Barnes at the 5
Exactly. A small ball 5 who can pass and defend multiple spots is a valuable commodity.
Lol a Small Ball 5....When Most Legit 7 footers are on the Court playing C who can hit 3s better than Barnes....Barnes is not a great Rebounder as well only averaging only 4 rebounds a game....When your playing Small ball you get destroyed in the paint Just like we ended up getting this Last season...Scottie Barnes is 6 foot 8 and is a good defender but hes not a rim protector or a shot blocker by any means and if we run up on teams that have legit Size and bang with a lineup of FVV/GTJR/OG/Siakam/Barnes we would get out rebounded by 30, Attacked in the paint with ease with no rim protection, And we would get beat down inside...And on top of that we would have no 3 point shooting or offensive firepower to withstand that...
We ran FVV/GTJR/OG As our 3 point threats and even had Lowry still and we were terrible and are in the lottery...Now you lose Lowry and expect Barnes to give us anything on offense? where we struggle the most....
The Barnes/OG/Siakam Lineup would be a utter failure and he just doesn't fit with what we need ...And your saying you don't draft on fit alone but get the most talent?....Well Suggs/Green/Mobley are all more talented and have higher upside than Barnes does atm soley based on the 3 point shot and offensive games alone....So at the end of the day we would be drafting for Fit + Talent so its a Win/Win...With Barnes your praying he gets a Jumper and i would rather a for sure thing with any of the Top 4 than a Prayer
