Neither Cade or Green are in my top 4, would be delighted if they went #1 and #2.
Interesting to see this take, and while I'm not as much of an outlier, I do agree that Cade isn't a lock to be the best player out of this draft when you project out several years.
I think there's a lot of intentional misinformation being put out (smokescreens!). When I look at the original Cade vs. Suggs arguments that were made at the beginning of the NCAA season, and then the Cade vs. Mobley debates that became more popular around February, I don't think much has changed. All of the same strengths and weaknesses still exist for each guy.
Who do you like 2nd best in the draft?
This is about Suggs or Mobley, you can search my posting history if you want my #2, I'd rather not get into a back and forth on it in another thread.
The warts on Cade are just too much for me to consider him in the top 4 in a strong draft.
-decent, but not good blocks and steals suggest he won't be more than an okay to slightly above average defender
-Poor assist to turnover ratio/ his teammates shot 2.5% better when he wasn't playing show poor creation abilities, basketball IQ
- terrible offensive rebounding numbers for his size suggest low aggression as the most aggressive guards/wings tend to have high ORB% in college
- low 2pt FG% suggest poor rim finishing and ability to create easy looks
He got a lot of points and shot the 3 very well, he may end up being a rich man's Jamal Crawford or Lou Williams. His 3pt% may also have been positive variance as his FT% suggests he is a good 3pt shooter not a great one. Tatum is probably a more apt comparison, but Tatum hit one of his higher/highest outcomes and had slightly better peripheral stats across the board than Cade.
For Green:
- poor at drawing fouls
- mediocre assist to turnover ratio for a guard
- poor rebounding numbers
Both players peripheral stats suggest they may have the skills to create their own offense, but won't have the BBIQ to punish teams for overhelping and may suffer against tougher defenders as they lack the aggression/want it more attitude. They fall into the Lou Williams, Carmelo Anthony mold of player who don't do much other than score themselves while hurting their teammates everywhere else.
