Omri Casspi Announces Retirement

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Jul 18, 2021 8:14 pm

Omri Casspi is retiring from professional basketball this offseason.

Casspi was drafted 23rd overall in 2009 by the Sacramento Kings.

Casspi returned to play in Israel in 2019, spending two seasons with Maccabi Tel Aviv.

I swear this guy gets so much attention for such a mediocre player. We've had so many more high profile players "non Israeli" retire without even a headline on realgm lolol

Yeah I never understood why this guy was always in the headlines for the most pointless reasons. There was a big fiasco with him and GSW a few years back that was all over the news.

If you don't know who Casspi was it says more about your lack of basketball knowledge than his relative obscurity. Dbags might not remember Omri, but dude could stroke for a big fella.

At times there seemed like there was more with Casspo, but it just never quite came into focus. Was feisty though. Also: been "retired" from the NBA for years, so I assume this is just his overall basketball retirement.

The Israeli Jordan had a few nice seasons. The NBA is a tough league - as Cam Paine just showed, a good player is one believer away from China.

It wasn't really a fiasco, more a disappointment. GSW wanted him because of his reputation as a reliable shooter, but he simply would not shoot the ball. He turned out to be a good cutter, one of the best on the team, but if he wasn't going to shoot, he couldn't give them what they needed. He got hurt later, IIRC, and then the team waived him to free up a roster spot.

If only you could have read the whole paragraph. He played in the euro league the last two years and is retiring from professional basketball which he was still currently playing.

Shame he was injured as much as he was. I'll never forget that night when he and Curry went off from 3, was crazy I'll link the video if anyone is curious.

McHale helped him modernized and revamp his game some which helped him stay in the league longer. Could of been a decent role player if he could stay healthy, but alas that wasn't in the stars.

Anyways check out the video link to see one of the craziest 3 point shot fests I've certainly ever seen.

if only that mattered.
he played 6 games in 2019-20
and averaged 5 ppg for 2020-21.
as i said before - his career was over after 2018-19.

The team should've waived Pat McCaw and kept Omri Casspi on the playoff roster. Keeping McCaw was a total waste. He was injured and went to great lengths not to resign.

He's one of the longer tenured NBA players to never play in a NBA playoff game
