I don’t believe the protections were made better for Detroit.
If I recall correctly, Houston did not need the sign and trade, they had the cap space and could have signed Wood outright to the deal he signed.
Detroit on the other hand needed the sign and trade to sign other free agents.
Nope, rockets were way over the cap and the protections were made better for Detroit. It was definitely a stinky transaction, especially because the first trade made little sense. I kinda think it was tampering. Especially because the way his contract broke as being 3/$27M but that got shut down and he later signed with them for real at a bigger number. Makes me think they agreed to a number before everything started, then he saw how much dudes like Grant and Plumlee were getting and wanted more

Edit: protections originally were reported to be 16/16/16/16/10/10/9
And were modified to be 16/16/18/18/13/11/9

The first trade was Detroit getting #16 for a future protected 1st plus taking on Ariza's dead weight money (which had the value on a later 1st anyway). IMO I felt that this was a slight value win for Houston giving the difficulty of getting immediate salary relief early in the offseason.

The initial reported contract for Wood (3/27) was based on him signing an MLE deal with Houston. This wouldn't have needed a S&T.

Then they put the two together, slightly modifying the pick protection slightly to get a larger contract for Wood.

What are the details of this trade for Toronto? You have them trading down from 4 to 8 and?

Raptors do it out of the kindness of their hearts. They feel guilty for moving up to 4 when teams like Cleveland and Orlando need it more.

Moved your post here. If you want to troll a little bit, that's lame anyway, but don't derail the draft prediction thread loserX went to the trouble of making. But we know who you are and pretending to be another team's fan so you can go back to playing victim with the Raptors is pretty sad.

It's Dallas, so whether it was Donnie working at Mark's behest or now Harrison working at his behest, they are going to aim high in free agency. And its possible the THJ interest was mostly about Rick and/or Donnie. From Tim's POV he has talked about wanting to come back, but also lots of interest in going to Miami(but Miami is surely aiming higher too and with a better chance of success than Dallas you have to think).

But a big part of why Harrison/Kidd are in Dallas now is Cuban believes they will be more attractive pitchmen than Donnie/Rick for free agents. And frankly that has to be true because Kidd is a worse coach and Harrison clearly not going to be able to match Donnie in trading acumen right out the gate you wouldn't think.

Right now all the buzz in Dallas is Kawhi which is such a pipe dream.

Sigh. I posted that several days ago and honestly don't remember what my exact structure was. If it comes to me I will post it as a standalone thread since its for some reason garnered this interest, but really I just don't think its this big of a deal. Was just some predictions for fun, nothing more.

What I don't understand about this entire exchange is that the Cavs are currently, without any trades, picking in front of the Raptors.

Cavs somehow end up with pick 4 and 5 while orlando moves up to 3 with 5/8. Toronto gets 8 and ?. I dont see anything on the cavs worth trading down from 4 to 8 for so im pretty confused too.

What is your confidence level in increased roles for Thybulle and Maxey?
Bigger concern? Replace the Danny Green 3&D role or find a perimeter shot creator? Something else?

Stein is saying the Pelicans will make a big run at Lowry. He isn't the only one either, a few people over the past few days have linked the Pelicans to Lowry.

Yeah, unless they can move Adams into space and then stretch Bledsoe. I wouldn't love that at all.

I'm a replace Danny guy. Although that could just be a shooter type and more of an offensive plus/dfefensively flawed rotation, but DG was a big part of that great starting lineup.

And watching Curry/Embiid offense rotate to target Curry defense, I'm not sold that a second weak defender is the way to go.

I've liked Lowry in the past, but it seems the excitement for him as a needle mover in general is too high right now.

Depends what he wants. If the Pels also decline Hayes' TO they should be able to offer an AAV of $20M, I think.
