I think Mao should be bumped up to #1- putting a Schroeder/Fournier back court at #4.

So here’s the thing. This is our existing roster:

C: Mitch / Sims
PF: Randle / Obi
SF: Knox
SG: RJ / IQ / Grimes
PG: Vildoza / McBride

Seems we need to sign at least two starters, a backup center, and a backup small forward to fill out the rotation and have roughly $50mm to do it. There are no max worthy free agents left, so we’re either taking a major step back, or we’re at least filling roles of need. I can’t see us looking to take a step back, so I think we’re looking hard at those second tier free agents and looking for a combo that works. That means some combination of Fornier, Schroeder, Lonzo, Derozan and possibly Lowry. Suddenly Fornier and Schroeder doesn’t look terrible out of those options, is all I’m saying.

FIBA Patty Mills would be a terrific fit with this Knicks squad.

Fournier destroyed the USA team. I just don’t see the combo.

Get me Lowry and Duncan Robinson, please.

Failing that, I suppose Lonzo and Oubre could be ok.

No to Schroeder.

Schroeder wants 4/100
Fournier wants 4/80
Lowry wants 3/90?
DeRozan?
Lonzo 4/80?

None of that looks very appealing to me. We will be cap locked and in a treadmill with any combo of those players. How much better will we actually be?

I just don't see anything that gets me excited about next week at all. I don't see anything that makes us any better than what we were this season with other teams improving. We most likely slip to the play in round. Then what? Run it back next year paying Randle and Mitch even more money?

Rooting for wins was fun but...was it worth it?

Might as well trade Randle, RJ and Mitch now and get on with the reboot. Maybe IQ too, since he might lead to some unnecessary wins.

Seems like a Knick thing to do. Create tons of capspace. Get young guys as (potentially) solid backups. Let the solid guys from your roster walk (Noel, Burks, Rose, Bullock). And make your big offseason gets multiyear deals for... *drumroll*....... Schroeder and Fornier.

Excitement is building.

Yes because rooting for losses guaranteed nothing but hope.. we have a solid little nucleus of young talent now if nothing else. I’m excited to watch their continued development and playing winning basketball will only enhance their development

Slip into the play in round with new multi year contracts of Dennis Schroeder and Evan Fornier swallowing much of the $50mil cap space. Joy.

Lowery and DeRozan - we'd have a chance - a SLIM chance - of a conference final. And if we'd draft some guys with potential instead of to fill out the roster, that might, MIGHT, be a path forward.

It's going to either:

Sexton & some wing or
Beal in a big trade or
Ball & Oubre

And everyone will be upset.

The tricky thing is, do we have a core yet? Is Julius and RJ a core we know we can build around? I’m not sure there’s an answer on that yet, and it’s going to take another season or two to figure that out.

I guess we can play the eternal kick the cap space can down the road each season, but to what end? We miraculously hit on a combination of one year mercenary contracts that are all keepers? I’m not sure we could ever outperform what Burks, Bullock and Noel brought as one year deals. At some point, we’re going to have to start giving out meaningful contracts to meaningful players. If that means tying up this years cap space with 3 year deals, so be it. If it doesn’t work, we change course, but at least we’ll know whether we had the right foundation to begin with.

It's too late now. We know they refuse to build a young core through the draft unless they get really lucky with picks. So...whatever. They won't rebuild from the ground up. They won't improve with the list of FA most likely available to us. So...it is what it is. Hope we nailed two steals at least in this draft. Dolan is the big problem. Does he wait patiently for this regime to win? If we backslide in the standings...or miss the playoffs in year two...what do we see from Dolan?

Day late and a dollar short this year.

I don't think we have the assets to make any meaningful trades (Sexton, Lillard, Beal). The only top tier asset we have is RJ and they won't trade him. Plus proven vets won't join us yet (Lowry, Paul). That's why we're looking at B grade free agents and hoping we can develop one of our picks (Obi, IQ) or sign and develop like Julius
