His defense will be missed but it can be replaced (unlikely but possible). Offensively, he was a liability in the playoffs. Shot 28% from three during the title run and 29% against the Suns, while providing no playmaking/creation.
I get the defense and little things he did, but the sky isn't falling over Caruso. I like the 3 signings so far today and there's still plenty of capable players to be had.
Simple math - Caruso can be in your playoff rotation against any team, those 3 dudes can't. Maybe Ariza for 15 minutes. And I'm not even talking about asset managment
I don't see why they can't be in the rotation. Vogel proved he can put together a top defense with just about anyone in the lineup, so I don't see why that isn't possible with Ellington in there. Dwight had a playoff role for them during their title run, and was a key bench player for the Sixers last year. I'm not sure what Ariza has left in the tank, but all these guys are for the minimum.
That's just not true. Lakers pretty much haven't had bad defensive guards since Vogel took over.
