We've now had past his prime Steve Francis, Baron Davis, JKidd, Chauncey... now Kemba. I have no doubt we'll sign Westbrook when he loses the last of his hops.
Don't forget Mark Jackson, who they traded a first round pick for.
Not all of these were the same though.
Mets took on Steve Francis' contract, which was pointless, though I suppose, at least it wasn't a long contract.
Jason Kidd was 39 when they signed him, coming off the worst season of his career. Kind of ancient.
Baron Davis was such a good player that he'd been waived by the Cavs before we got him, and he signed for the vet minimum, or very close to it.
Chauncy wasn't bad when he got here, but he was part of the trade every asset they have for Melo trade. Not a good trade.
Kemba wasn't their first choice, but when the top free agents were gone, and for what he costs (almost nothing), I like the move.
But, I'll agree with you somewhat. This move is similar to some of those, BD & Kidd mostly, but those moves didn't cost anything except a roster spot and 1-3 million. Kemba showed a lot more tallent last year either Davis or Kidd before the got them, so . . . I'm feeling optimistic about this one.
Chauncy was a good player here, just a bad trade, and remember Derek Harper - that one worked out, though that was a long time ago.
