sure they will. because if fields turns out to be really good (particularly if he is really good on his rookie deal) and the team still isn't consistently contending it will be because of pace's mistakes. see the texans/deshaun watson. people just won't be clamoring for pace to get ****-canned anymore
lmao, nothing Pace has done is even in the same universe as trading Hopkins for David Johnson. That org is a dumpster fire of epic magnitude and they still had the Chiefs on the ropes for a minute there in the playoffs. If Fields turns out to be at Watson's level, Pace's job is much easier because you're getting elite QB play at like a $25m/year discount so you can spend that money elsewhere.
The Bears have had a halfway decent last 3 years, especially when you consider the QB position.
Pace built this defense from the ground up with good drafting (Goldman, Jackson, Smith, Johnson), smart FA moves (Danny T, Hicks), a big trade (Mack) and good scrap heap pickups (Gipson). Same can be said about the offense - the RB room is the best it's been since Pace got here, TE room is 3 deep right now and Robinson/Mooney is a strong 1/2 punch. The offensive line will shake itself out just like it did last year.
And his worst move over the past few years (Quinn) just highlights how hard it is to hit a home run at the Edge position in free agency, further justifying the Mack trade in my mind.
