Burnes Cy Young Case

Post#1 » by ReasonablySober » Sun Sep 12, 2021 10:13 am

Corbin Burnes case for the Cy Young. That was published last week, before Saturday's game.

The tl;dr version is that he's having a historic (think Pedro in '99) season on a per innings basis. His FIP of 1.50 puts him up there with the best of all-time. His fWAR now puts him comfortably ahead of anyone else in the NL:

1 - 7.1 Burnes
2 - 6.5 Wheeler
3 - 4.7 Scherzer
4 - 4.6 Buehler

Just gonna watch this on repeat for the next five days.

I agree but I think Scherzer gets it because he's a Dodger. We'll see how the last few starts play out. 19 games left, probably 4 starts.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Corbin Burnes is on a historic season, he's not only breaking Brewers records, he's also setting MLB records.

If Scherzer gets it, barring a collapse by others and him going on a hot streak, it'd be a crime. He doesn't have a single argument. He hasn't even been LA most of the season. Wheeler's probably the only one I'd buy at this point because of the innings differential.

Random aside, what happened in 2019 when he was basically unplayable? I can't really remember off the top of my head other than not being able to control anything.

He threw his fastball 57% of the time in 2019, cutter 0% (he didn't have one). Now he throws his four seamer 11% of the time and his cutter 52% of the time (and harder than his FB back in 2019). Mixes in a change he didn't have back then too.

Yea and of course Max is perfect through seven a few hours after I put this into existence.
