Yes they do there is no increase cap hit or or lux tax. So Parker for example makes $2.28 mil but his salary against the cap, the lux tax or in a trade is $1.6 mil.
What is interesting is that the real savings is to get a veteran player like Brown or Kornet to take the 2 way deal, as they get $500,000 and can play up to 50 games but do not count against the salary cap or tax at all.
I don't think that is true with Jabari. The veteran discount is only for 1 year contracts (I think). That is why I asked if we could resign him if we waived him now. He would come out on top and we would save half a million or so on the cap hit. Early bird would be gone though, if that matters.
It would be true for any 1 year vet minimum deal though. There is no difference between Anthony Brown, Juwan Morgan, or a 15 year vet....... if we are giving them 1 year minimum deals.
This rule is why the Marc Gasol contract was sketchy to me. Veterans at the end of the line chasing rings don't sign 2 year vet minimum deals. They almost always go with 1 year if they are taking the veteran minimum and the team gets that salary discounted. The Lakers and Gasol went out of their way to make it a 2 year deal. It was curious. I think it was always a wink wink 1 year 5.26 million deal. It was a NFL type deal.
