On another matter, I was disappointed to see that the Lakers signed Doumboya to a rwo-way. If Stevens waits too long to fill that second 2-way slot, most of the high upside options may be gone. I do not want to get stuck with another smurf. Luka Samanic, anyone?
Nothing we've heard so far suggests that Brad nor Ime have even the slightest interest in moving Al at ANY point. That said, from a depth standpoint, I do agree that this situation does present an opportunity to see what depth we have behind Al and their potential to fill a role similar to what Al provides this team. I think it may be a little premature to suggest that those guys are the future at that position. None of them have earned that right whatsoever.
1) Agreed, I don't think we're trading Al anytime soon. One reason we brought him back is because he has proven over the years to be a good playoff performer - much more accomplished as a playoff performer than Kemba. We're gonna want him come playoff time.
2) Al is more of a center, especially at this point in his career than a PF. But I do agree that Al (and Tatum) being out tonight allows us to try other PF options. Curmudgeon mentioned Juancho, Grant and Bruno but 2 other guys who can play PF who could see the floor tonight are Morgan and Hauser.
3) I honestly don't know much about Doumboya, but I wouldn't criticize Brad for "waiting too long" to fill the 2nd 2-way spot. More than likely, the guys we're going to sign for the 2nd 2-way spot is already on our 20 man training camp roster. The following players are on our training camp roster and eligible for our 2nd 2-way spot:
Juwan Morgan
Garrison Mathews
Theo Pinson
I wouldn't criticize Brad for "waiting around" to fill the other 2-way spot when he's already signed these 3 guys to training camp deals. Sure, maybe if some guy who is clearly head and shoulders better than all 3 of the above names gets waived then Brad will scoop him up, but the odds of that happening are slim. Brad is just gonna wait till right before the season starts and decide which one of the 3 above names will get the 2-way spot.
