I could certainly be wrong and this is obviously just conjecture but if they are close, I think he would probably say they are close. So for Ayton to say he's disappointed is worrying.
Ayton could just be upset that we are not giving him super max potential… the point is we really don’t know, could just be posturing on his side. I’m giving James Jones and Sarver the benefit of the doubt here before calling for him to sell the team. These contracts could get signed tomorrow and this all goes away.
Still not sure what Sarver has done to get the benefit of the doubt
I am not sure benefit of the doubt is right, but getting the right people (executives/coach) to help build a contender is pretty much what you want. New practice facility, etc.
But with this situation ultimately it depends if you ponies up money to keep them, preferably within the next 3 days, but at least before they start talking to other teams about offer sheets.
There really doesn't seem to be any upside in waiting. The movie Upside of Anger pops into my head as I right that. Maybe Ayton on a mission? Possibly Bridges too?
The players may just want to get it behind them too in order to secure the elite financial future in case of severe injury. That's a pretty big thing. I just wish I knew how far they are apart. Is it a player option? 5 years/$150? More like John Collins at 5/$125? If the latter that's a slap in the face.
What about Bridges? Are they offering 4/$90? 4/$100? If they are at 4/$100-$110 on Bridges I somewhat see the point...that's about the annual amount that 538 says but lower than Pelton's value of $30 per. They may just hold out a huge # until the deadline. Nothing to lose to negotiate tough like that. Get them up from $22.5 to $25 or something. But if they are at 4/$80 or something that's ridiculous.
Same thing with Ayton..they could be holding and will cave. But if they would cave to max seems they would have already done so. Maybe they are trying to build in more incentives..but I don't think you can on top of a max, which is why it's a max and escalators are normal and if a guy hits all nba or the other criteria he's obviously deserving.
