It took Cade not playing to get you to that point? I made the decision years ago that I would no longer spend my own money attending an expensive sports event that I could just watch on TV. I'll spend the company's money, but not mine.

Cade's not real anyway. He exists only in the Matrix.

I think its pretty safe to assume Cade won't be playing in the opener at this point. The team was pretty clear he needed to have a few full practices under his belt from memory, and that doesn't appear to have happened yet. However, there is no benefit for the team to rule him out this far before the game, as you said, its just going to hurt ticket prices and hype for the game.

JEIII the Pistons beat writer for the Athletic was speculating on his podcast that Cade would be back by the 4th or so game this season. Either way, its not a huge deal for me, but I do think he'll miss the first few games

That's the thing, this isn't some normal player that they're being coy about. This is the first Pistons #1 pick since 1970, a player that the fanbase has been thirsting for since Grant Hill, and all they give the fans all preseason and now leading right up to the game is "He'll play when he plays". That's some BS IMO.

These paying customers, who essentially pay their salaries btw, deserve some insight as to what's going on with Cade yet here everybody is wondering what's going on the day before opening night. Is he playing opening night? Is he out for the next week? Next month? What's the exact injury? We're getting none of this and I doubt this is some strategic play to throw off the opposition. There's tape of him practicing but that doesn't really mean much in terms of real game readiness. I don't know, it's a bit frustrating being left in the dark about the franchise player we've all been dying to see in real game action.

Written today sounds a lot like Cade expects to play tomorrow.

These Cade journal entries are going to be a fun read this season

If he's not playing, it will be because of the medical staff, not Cade. Or at least that's my takeaway from that journal. It will sure make that first game a whole lot more interesting...

Agreed...it just comes off as disrespecting the fan base to me, which is a huge turnoff. And then the nerve of the beat writers being upset at fans for wanting to know about OUR FREAKING FACE OF THE FRANCHISE. He plays when he plays is such bull....and once again, no one wants him to play hurt we just want to know wtf is going on!

Look at it from this standpoint--whether you know Cade is playing or not changes...what? I mean, if you already bought tickets and he doesn't play, you're screwed. If he does play, you're happy. You knowing or not knowing in advance doesn't affect either outcome. If you haven't bought your tickets yet and whether you do or not depends on knowing then sure, I could see you getting a little antsy. But it's not like the term "game time decision," i.e. right up to the minute, is a foreign concept to anyone in this forum. It happens.

But honestly--how many people here fall into that category? Next to none would be my guess. So it comes off like "The team is a bunch of jerks for not telling me right now BECAUSE I WANT TO KNOW RIGHT NOW!!!"

So treat it like it's a "game time decision" and move on.

Welp, there it is.

Hard to believe a simple ankle sprain is enough to keep the #1 pick off the floor on opening night.

How long ago was this reported injury?

I thought they'd role into tomorrow that he was "questionable" for the game kind of surprised they announced it a full day early. Perhaps partially because they have been getting hounded with questions and partially because they were worried about the optics of not announcing right up to tip off. Gives Chicago the ability to game plan for a team without Cade.

That said, I fully expect Cade to play against the Bulls a few days later, and his home debut to be the game on Saturday Oct 30th versus Orlando. Hopefully LCA is hot and ready for that one!

Looking at our roster, do you really think we care about winning the game? We're going for a bottom 3 record again.

I'm not sure you have a good grasp of how most sports fans operate.

I disagree. If the team saying he's on track to play tomorrow means they're hiding a serious injury, then saying he's not playing tomorrow means the team is hiding the fact that he's not injured at all.

Or it means that, as suspected, Cade is a hologram.

OOOORRRR..it means that Cade stumbled through a portal into the spirit world and can't return to our world until he retrieves the eyes of Dahlver-Nar to pay for passage. And that takes a fortnight to achieve even if he does have the Dagger of Enchantment and a pair of trained of trained owlbears, which is highly unlikely.

I hope you won't mind if I don't watch you not watch it. Question: did you watch the preseason games he didn't play in? Asking for a friend.
