The goal is to win. There is no other goal. When the Magic is sitting on a 27 game losing streak, are we still going to be talking about "player development".
..
No its not this season. This is one of the youngest teams in the history of the NBA without maybe there 3 best players & a rookie coach.
Its the leaque worst team by design. We could have added 5 ok vets & win 5-10 games more but we didnt. That many people doesnt like that product i can understand but i'm surprised that some hardcore fans here are surprised by the result of this years team compilation. Young teams doesnt win. A Durant, Harden, Westbook team won barely 20 games when they were 19-20 years old. What u think a team with 5% of that talent gonna do?
Houston lost 20 games in a row last year. I'm pretty sure, 95% of the average fan cant even remember that anymore, because it helped them get the player most here wanted most.
Only goal this season is to find 2-3 players out of this roster who are part of our future & get a high pick.
Where gist of things you are saying is true, there are few things that aren't correct.

They just 3rd youngest. Memphis is younger...and way better for example. Hornets and Minessota are barley any younger ( like 0,1) and way better.
. A Durant, Harden, Westbook team won barely 20 games when they were 19-20 years old.
This is flat out false.
In first season of Westbrook, Durant and Harden together, they had 50-32 record. In year before OKC won 23 games.
But in offseason they drafted Harden and made callup for Ibaka who was drafted and stashed year prior.

It's perception. 76ers lost most games in history over span of 3 years. And whole things was brushed off as "process" . Years later it turned out 76ers sucessfully wasted 3 years of lifes of their fanbase because best process gave was one deep-ish playoff run in 10 years. So it turned out, in playoffs 5 years of sucking payoff was same as team that they scrapped together ( Igoudala, Lou Williams, Tad Young and Brand)... Second round exit in 7 games.
In last 15 years some of most humilating nba season were :
Bobcats 7-59- drafted MKG
76ers 10-72 - drafted Simmons
Nets 12-70 drafted Favors
Atlanta 13-69 - Marvin Williams
Heat 15-67 drafted Beasley
Minessota 15-67 Wes Johnson
So hopless sucking wasn't rewarding .
The thing is, if you can't win 20 games in nba, there is no way in hell adding one 19 years old kid will change tragjectory of your franchise. Maybe over few years that player become integral part of better future, but it's impossible to not see clear disfuction on teams incapable of even winning 20 out of 82 games that goes way deeper than just putting s***y players to get good draft picks.
And it's not hard to understand why. Your coaching, head coach, player selection, in game menagment , player development, defensvie & offensive coaches have to be worthless to achive that level of sucking. So whole structure around your team has to be pathetic. And after you "achive" 15 wins season, you are asking basically same people to now become good at things they are mastered- sucking? Yea... not gonna happen. Maybe if you draft Durant, Westbrook and Harden it will... but keep in mind even OKC changed coach during last sucking era ( PJ Carilsimo started 1-12 and got sacked and Brooks finished seaason with still bad but not that awful 22-47 record). And ultimately won nothing as team become way to expensive to keep all 4 guys together. (again, pretty much same that happend to Minessota as they couldn't afford to keep Lavine, Wiggins, Towns...).
