Best case scenario is that Cade is a legit #1 and we can add a #2.... then you get Bey/Grant as 3A/3B.
That 2 option would be great if it was a young big that you could run pick and roll with Cade.

I don't see Grant accepting 3rd option. He came here because no doubt he thought he was going to be the number 1 option, and he has been all last year, but he makes a good amount of bad decisions and the ball stops moving because he is looking to take the shot even when he has guys more open than he is.

He does have good stretches of scoring. I like that part of his game. When he is on he is a star. He very well could make the all star team, but I fear he isn't going to want to play 2nd fiddle to Cade.

I think Grant could hamper Cade's development. I'll be interested in watching Grant when Cade plays. I'm sure at first Grant will step back and let Cade shine, but as a few games go by it will be interesting to see if Grant continues to take as many shots and how things could develop if he starts missing a wide open Cade so that he can take a worse shot of his own.

I completely disagree with this. He was about to be the fourth option in Denver. I think he would be fine being the 3rd option. Although I would understand if we traded him for timeline reasons.

Folks now admitting to being bandwagon fans, man have times changed.

I watch the Pistons because watching the build makes the top of the mountain far more enjoyable.

When you watch a TV series you need to watch all the episodes because even when some episodes are boring and bad you still learn things about the characters you might never find out.

Same with sports. I watch the games because I enjoy watching our individual players grow together and become a cohesive unit.

I mean, what's the difference watching them last year or this year? Did you guys expect them to be winning against these teams they've played thus far, or even coming close really? They are playing as we expected, looking for development of the youth, same as last year. I'm interested in what Bey could become, I think his ceiling is rising. Problem right now I think is lots of guys are playing below what they can do, and unfortunately it's the guards, Joseph/Frank Jackson and Hayes haven't been good.

Grant came here because he wanted to be the man. Maybe he'd be fine with #2, but i think anything below that and he's gone as soon as his contract is up after next year.

I wouldn't be too quick to jump on anyone as being a bandwagon fan because they don't find the games entertaining at the moment. You watch for the purpose of being entertained; why would you watch if it weren't? I'm a big fan of all the "big four" sports in the US--football, basketball, baseball and hockey--and freely admit that I don't watch as many games when the teams are bad, i.e. losing due to lack of talent, effort, coaching, direction, etc. as opposed to just being young and over matched. And lord knows there have been recent seasons for the Pistons in which their play, coaching, direction, etc. wasn't entertaining for me so I watched a lot fewer games. Now, that doesn't mean I'm hollering "I'm never watching this stupid team again!" burning my team merchandise or pledging allegiance to another team. Not watching doesn't necessarily make anyone less of a fan; they just have a different threshold for what ceases to be entertaining.

Brand new coaching staff hasn't helped things. Folks wondering where the continuity is from last year can look there, at least in part. Yes, the head coach is the same guy. But the assistants play a big role, and are who the players work more closely with. And it's an entirely different staff from last year.

Again, I'd be shocked if this isn't the first time that a sitting head coach lost/replaced his entire front bench coaching staff from the year before.

People need to quit it with this commentary on Jerami Grant, there's absolutely no basis behind it. Coming to a place to expand your game and grow does not equal just wanting to chuck at your heart's content, team success be damned. There's no doubt in my mind that Grant is constantly told to stay aggressive, keep getting up shots. So that's what he's doing.

There's also no doubt in my mind that there's the understanding that as the talent around him gets better, the role he's playing would evolve. There's ALSO no doubt in my mind that he'd be more than willing to accept being a 2nd/3rd option as opposed to 5th in Denver. He's always been known as high IQ and a team player. Cut the bs narrative of him being a future malcontent. He's smart enough to know what his game really is FFS.

This line of thinking has been overplayed for too long.

But it's so much more fun to project one's opinions as reality! There's no fun in taking things at face value.

Pistonrings wrote:Once again, great vid from Everything King. I swear, I am not him but he and I are on the same page. He says in the video that Killian should have had 10 assists.
He also isn't crazy about Grant either. Grant hurts the ball movement. Casey is treating him like a superstar and he simply isn't. He takes too many bad shots when he could pass the ball for a better shot. He doesn't get his teammates the ball even when he is in a bad position to score.

I do like his game and he can go on nice scoring runs but he is not efficient enough to take as many shots as he takes, at least half the time. Good vid here from King as usual.

After watching some Killian highlights from last night, I can definitely agree with Everything Kings take.

As long as Killian can get to the rim and show the aggression and speed he’s been showing these past two games, he will be okay. As I said before he has the size, the defense and the passing. He just has to be able to score on 1, 1.5, or 2 levels of the offensive side of the ball to be playable.
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

Who is a bandwagon fan? Saying that they are bad and boring doesn't equate to being a bandwagon fan. The fact that people are still watching the games despite how awful the teams were and continue to be over the last 10+ seasons points to how diehard of a fan they/I am.

This. You can only force yourself to watch something that isn't great and causes unpleasantness if you're some type of sports masochist fan. I never understood that kind of gatekeeping from fans across all spectrums.

This is why I highly recommend fans here to take up a second team and third team to root for, for no other reason just the fact that they are fun to watch or have a group of scrappy players. It's why I've been watching the Warriors & Rockets (before the Harden trade) since 2013 even though I have no connection with Oakland and Houston. It'll make a fan love basketball again and make it a non issue with the fact that their own team is bad

I watch other games, just not when my Pistons are playing. I will find the game I'm interested in tonight while the Pistons are off and watch it. Some nights there simply isn't any games I'm interested in at all.

Being a Piston fan I'm more in to the eastern conference but I will tune in to a Laker game cause I love to see them lose. Sometimes a Rocket game to see Green play, but most of the time it's ec games.

As far as being entertained, I'm entertained by the small bits of growth in the players and team as a whole and wouldn't enjoy the good times nearly as much had I not watched all the growth in the early times.

The problem with your argument is that HE DOES TAKE plenty of horrible shots when he could assist another shooter who has a better opportunity.

No way would I believe the coaches are ordering him to take bad shots. He does have great games, I love watching him when he is on. But part of the time he is a black hole and decides to take horrible attempts.

He doesn't do this that much, but enough to where it is noticeable. Now, imagine how much more noticeable those times will be when it's an open Cade waiting for a crisp pass and instead Grant tries to take on a double team and forces up bad shots in a close 4th quarter?

I can assure you that, if it happens, will be very noticeable to Pistons fans.

Am I saying this WILL HAPPEN as an absolute fact? No, but I have seen enough of these kind of shots to make me suspect we will eventually see this happen.

So I will be watching Grant's game closely this year, HOPING he and Cade make a good team and actually feed each other when they can help the other get an open shot. Time will tell.

I didn't say they were telling him to take bad shots, but to continue to stay aggressive. If he's sometimes taking a shot while being covered and someone's open it doesn't make him selfish, it just speaks to bad vision. It's not like he's Stuckey out there.

Furthermore, other than Bey who tf should he be passing to right now instead taking tough shots? To go further, his NEED (yes, sometimes there's a need) to force shots will decrease dramatically with Cade back. It's like we didn't see him defer to the corpse of Blake Griffin, who he had no business pausing his game for. That to me speaks to him being aware of time and place.

Yes, they tell him be aggressive no doubt, but I think he knows that it goes without saying that he shouldn't take bad shots with a low percentage of working out.

There's no doubt he takes an uncomfortable amount of overly congested shots when should keep the ball moving. Last year he was out a game I remember and the ball movement was wonderful for that game.

He now shares some with Bey, he will have to cut his shots down even further because Cade will also require as many or more than Bey does.

The mere fact that he does sometimes take bad shots is reason enough to be aware that this will have to be cut down on as we add another main scoring option. That's just simple truth.

And Piston fans will be paying attention to a high degree when it comes to their number 1 pick getting a good share of the shots.

Let's face it, adding Cade will cut down shots for everyone else as he will most likely become the number one option shortly.

That's why I always say we won't be needing Killian to score much. It's his passing and fishing off that our 3 main scorers will need. If Killian is around 12 to 15 pts a game efficiently and 8 assists he will be just right for us.

This is another reason Beef Stew will continue starting, because there wouldn't even be close to enough shots for KO when playing with our main 3 scorers.

We would be wasting KO's scoring ability in the starting unit and then hampering the bench by taking that scoring away from them.

So I and many other Pistons fans will be hoping and watching for Grant to evolve his game to add Cade in. It may mean significantly fewer shots for him, especially once Cade becomes THE GUY .

Gotta be honest, didn't read the whole thing. But literally EVERYONE takes bad/tough shots. Those tasked with the responsibility of being a higher volume scorer, takes more tough shots than normal.

I honestly can't reconcile how the commentary on this board is there's no playmakers to create shots for the team and at the same time talk about someone taking tough shots. Yeah duh. They kinda go hand and hand.

My prediction is Grant has an even better season than last year. Not the doom you're holding to.

We have a few good shooters, Frank and Josh, Garza will be, Livers will be. I would rather see Frank Jackson take a wide open shot than I would seeing Grant take tightly contested ones.

Not sure how many forums you visit but I have seen plenty of Pistons fans complaining about him being a black hole when the baLl gets to him.

Scoring is nice, but hurting your team's overall ball movement can be a significant detriment to the team

But, I do hope you are right for sure because I think his age does fit our timeline and I do enjoy seeing him when he is hot.

But no doubt there is many a Piston fan who will be checking his game out closely with a mind to how he is helping Cade shine as well as Bey.
