The kid had all of 3 days of practice with the starters (basically one with Davante due to protocols). The chemistry just isn't there yet and the coaching staff needs to understand that.

On their lone TD drive Love was at one point 7 for 7 from the pocket because, surprise surprise, they weren't asking him to do 5-step drop-backs under center and have him progress through his 2nd and 3rd reads. I don't care if it's rookie Peyton Manning out there, you can't hang your incredibly raw young QB out to dry like that and expect him to improvise at the line with the play-clock winding down. Just an overall poor offensive game-plan with zero creativity and going away from what we were doing best (running the ball). LaFleur wasn't just covering for his young QB, he was being honest.

Weren't a great deal of his incompletions in the early 2nd half on plays where he couldn't hit a hot receiver when (correctly) identifying blitz?

I think that was my biggest complaint.

I'm not the best football mind these days but generally I'd welcome a blitz in the NFL and just have my WRs dominate 1 on 1. But that is a bit of a tall task for a young guy like Love, maybe.

Rewatching the game and I would say on at least three occasions we ran a screen and a guy was in his face before he could even step back.

I'd say his pocket composure was great to see. If he drops that throw to Adams about 6" lower that is a catch instead of a pick. The worst play was when he led Adams out of bounds on what could have been like a 50 yard TD, Adams smoked his guy and was free all the way.

Hopefully we get Clark and Stokes back soon. Along with Jaire, Bakhtiari, Zadarius, Myers, ...etc

Yeah, I left that game with an undecided opinion of Love's future, but his pocket presence looked good.

That is a very underrated skill for a QB. Lots of dudes with all the arm talent in the world but if they can't handle the pocket, they aren't going to be in the league very long.

As I was saying last night I hope he plays this weekend against Seattle. I'd love to see how he looks after getting the first game jitters out of the way and having a week to breakdown and learn from this week's tape. I feel like that would tell me more about what they have in him than this game.

All I heard about Stokes is he was injured during warm-ups
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

They called fewer runs because they wanted to make them pay for blitzing. Couldn't get it done for multiple reasons.

Counterpoint - I believe a then 22-year-old Justin Herbert was told to start just prior to kickoff, amassing 300yds, one passing TD and one rushing TD. If I recall correctly, he had less prep than love.

Not to be negative, I do think he was great when backed into his own endzone. And he had a great drive against an awful defense in the fourth, which certainly still required considerable poise. Idk, on the excitement front, this wasn't godgers in Dallas. More like a 4/10 from me.

In the end, the arrow points toward dealing him, committing to Rodgers, and see where we're at in 2024.

Last note - still a crazy small sample, lest we forget the opposite end how Flynn ended up after cashing in on his 6 TD performance.
You gotta make it sexy! Hips and nips, otherwise I'm not eating.

Agreed. Although Herbert might be an extreme example. I remember watching his first game and texting my buddy in the 1st quarter that dude was GOOD. It wasn't just the numbers it was the arm talent that jumped off the screen.

Good breakdown of Loves game.

Love faced an unblocked rusher on 14 or 34 drop backs. Yikes, the blocking was even worse than I thought.

Love made the right read and bad throw on 7 plays. Thats not good.

In terms of Love, way too early to tell. He looked pretty good when not blitzed, awful when blitzed. Blitz recognition comes with practice time, tape review, and getting in games. Special teams and coaching left a lot to be desired.

And Z. Gary leads the team in sacks with 4.5 (and has provided solid pressure) with Clark and Lowry both with 3. Preston started out strong, but has fallen off. Mercilus apparently played 30 snaps against KC, but I can't say I noticed him.
