If they're not, can we hire those guys?

Haha, but honestly I think a lot of the changes in NBA officiating this year were because people watched the Olympics and preferred the more physical style of play, which made the NBA want to emulate that in some ways. The reffing I'm seeing this year reminds me of FIBA officiating.

That and the fact that watching players cheat to get free throws and shoot 15+ of them makes for a lousy viewing/tv experience.
For the refs, Curry said that "There’s going to be some confusion to start, for sure. Any emphasis they put from one year to the next, the changes, it takes some time to adjust. I’m sure there will be some antics early. Like that [step-back] traveling thing a couple years ago, refs are trained to look at a certain thing, but there’s a lot of other things going on. They have to get adjusted, too."
Steph Curry mentioned himself, Luka Doncic, James Harden, and Trae Young as the players that everyone wants to talk about the most as it pertains to this new rule; however, Steph remains confident that his game will not suffer as long as the referees are consistent.
On the consistency he hopes to see from officials, Steph said, "It’s just a matter of, hopefully, it’s consistent. That’s the biggest thing we need from a refereeing standpoint, across the board. I don’t care what you call, as long as you’re consistent with it, we’ll make the adjustments, and the game won’t suffer -- or my game won’t suffer for it, at all.”

To me this sends the messege that Dame doesn't care about the fans, or their enjoyment of the game that allows him to make millions, and I don't see any other way to slice it.
I really like Dame as a player, so to hear him say this is disappointing as hell.

It is the legit drives to the basket getting hacked and NOT getting a foul call that is a problem. That is a foul. Period. That should always be called. You have to reward the aggressive player/team when they get hacked while shooting. If you don't the game gets reaaaaly boring when players realize they can just hack guys all game long and there's no penalty for it. That's not basketball either.

Bringing physicality back has been fantastic.

The rule changes have really hurt Anunoby. His FTs per game are down to 2.3. Last year he had a career high of 2.4.HangTime wrote:Who's the most disrespected player on your team? The guys that are drawing contact, but the refs swallow their whistles on?
For the Raptors, I think Anuonby could easily get 8 FT per game, even with the way game is being called now. He's only averaging 2.3 FTA.
