Re: The LeBron James - 21-22 Regular Season Thread
the 2019-2020 roster + this year's version of THT (provided he can maintain around this level of play in his third season) would probably be the best team in the league. Ironically, he was the secondary ball-handler Lebron was clamoring for. No point in trading all of your depth when guys like Nunn/THT are decent enough of playmakers to soften Lebron's load.

Why move Nunn?
He will be a solid shooter who can create a bit and plays better D than Monk
I would move Monk
Playoff locks:
Lebron, AD, Russ (sadly), THT, Nunn, Dwight
Likely, but minutes heavily depends on matchup:
Melo and Ariza
Maybes:
Reaves, Ellington, Bazemore, Monk
No way:
DJ, Rondo, and Avery (assuming he will be cut)
Core playoff guard rotation:
Russ, THT, Nunn and 1-2 of Bazemore, Reaves, Ellington, Monk
Ellington is a guy though who may legit be useful, but we need a bigger sample size of his defense
Because it's easier to find a decent role player for 6 millions rather than 2.5. Besides that, they don't need his shot creation, they need strictly 3nD 6'6+ type body

Nunn isn't a defensive liability though and you still need guards
He is a great catch and shoot guy and you still want creators
Monk and maybe even Ellington may not even be playable come playoff time against a lot of matchups

You are right about the salaries, but not sure I would move Nunn unless we really think Ellington can almost be Nunn on D and won't get picked on come playoff time
I would move Monk and package with Rondo/DJ or even Bazemore if needed
Russ to OKC with our 2027 1st is probably the only way we can move him this year if we want anything of value (the trade exception). Doubt that happens

Another decent shooting night for Carmelo.

I'm not as harsh as others over their choosing THT but it should never have been a pick one situation and I'm surprised Laker faithfuls have so much tolerance for the whole situation. Both players were your franchise's amazing finds and it must be irritating to see other teams benefit from it. Although I do think the Westbrook fit might have also factored into the decision and it wasn't just financial.
We traded or gave away a lot of our finds, as our scouting department is excellent in finding value in late 1st and 2nd rounds. Sometimes, its out of necessity to find cap space, other times, its just hard to keep all of them once they mature beyond their initial deals.

I know that he's decent defensively but they desperately need a big body, especially with the way Bazemore looks. Even if Ariza gets back to his previous form, they can't rely on a wing rotation of 37yo Lebron, 37yo Melo and 36yo Ariza

You lot thought you could hide one of the better farm systems in the league but the jig is up. Can't have teams building contenders off of late 1sts and 2nds. Reaves is looking due a nice bag as well. Cuban, Masai, Gilbert, they'd all look especially nice beside Luka. You know what to do.

You don't think Monk, 2nds, and an expiring like Rondo/DJ fetch a bench guy?
Danuel House?
Who are you even eyeying with Nunn?

One thing seems to have gone relatively unnoticed here.
This Lakers team may have the most isolation offense players of any team ever. I believe this is an intentional strategy. These guys don't need spacing to get into their offense, they just need to avoid double teams.
LeBron, Davis, Westbrook, THT, Melo, Monk, Nunn, Rondo

Yes, that's the reason to go small: so you can feature 36-year-old Carmelo Anthony in the mid-post while AD chills in the dunker spot.

Bulls defense is really good. Lakers really can't get to the rim cleanly or even get AD a good catch

Posting up AD clearly isn't working today. Gotta let Russ and THT cook with AD as a screener

Bulls: 5/8 from three, 4/4 FTs
Lakers: 3/13 from three (pretty good looks), 0/0 FTs
8 point deficit not bad considering but the implosion can happen at any time.
Avery Bradley has been really bad and has to be removed from the lineup. You know who would be good? Caruso but I guess he wasn’t worth $10 million per year. SMH

Why take Russ out when he's playing so well? Who knows what he'll be like when he re enters.

Derozoan has been a net negative player literally his entire career and now is playing defense and hitting threes. This is absolutely wild.

Both AD and Vogel should be embarrassed that basic double teams are simply just taking him out of the game.

THT has looked good in his two games. Westbrook looks more explosive tonight. The difference in the game is open three point shooting, i.e., Bulls are 9-16, and the Lakers are 4-17.

Lakers could've really used Lonzo and Caruso this season
