It takes years to creep back up near the tax line one you drop back down to the basic cap and being up there in payroll is pretty much necessary for a contender. If there are really bad contracts that come with assets attached I’d gladly go that route but getting a solid contributor that has a skill the roster lacks is also totally fine with me.
Agreed. I'm not sure what's ideal, and moving Boucher AND Dragic probably would mean taking on a less than disirable salary, but I would love to see this team trade at least one (if not both) of Boucher and Dragic for someone they would more confidently pay that $$ than whatever Boucher gets this summer. If dealing assets like Flynn and/or Yuta (two guys struggling to find roles here) means bringing in a young piece that might make even more sense with our core, I think now is the time to pull the trigger. "Over paying" (in talent) via trade now feels like a better idea than letting Boucher and Dragic walk and then hoping we can over pay a free agent later IF we improve our 6-8 man core while improving our contract situation while we give Barnes, OG, and Precious an important year of development.
