I voted Tank Mediocre but the description there doesn't fully capture my opinion. I'm basically in the same place as last season. Going into the season, try to win, try to make the playoffs. If we reach a point where it's obvious this team isn't good enough then pivot and move to tank mode.
Last season Covid was the pivot point. This season we've been banged up but with a lot of smaller injuries and I'm not sure we will have an obvious pivot point like last season. I'd like to see this team play a few weeks mostly healthy to confirm what we have or don't have, but I don't feel like the biggest issues are due to health. If everyone is healthy, I don't think our poor ball movement and spacing improve a whole lot. I do think the defence improves - how much is an open question.
I also feel just like last year that there are some teams that we obviously will not be able to "out-tank". If we fully embrace the tank I think we end up around the 7th pick again pre-lottery. However, that could still be very valuable. A tank might also come with obtaining assets for moving a few guys at the deadline, which also needs to be considered, not just the lottery pick we would have.
The idea of potentially pairing Scottie with another Scottie-level player is obviously extremely tantalizing.
