Especially when speed is not an advantage this offense is willing to exploit. Given our roster (and looking back at Kemba this yr maybe he couldn't do it) we should be playing at a higher pace but Thibs isn't about that life.

So what ends up happening is we play a small perimeter (or did with Kemba and RJ at SF) at a pace that suits teams with tall PGs who see over the defense( problem solved) and long defenders.

However, with that said teams that play with a perimeter our size are lighting it up. That's on RJ with these slumps. He's gotta take better shots and make better shots. I'm curious to see how Burks changes this team. At the end of the day Thibs wants a team who grinds it out defensively and if the offense is ugly to us then it's ugly for everyone else and he probably likes it just like that. Bore the other team to death.

Trade back for who? In a re-draft RJ still goes top 5, if not still top 3 depending on team needs. Garland? Herro? Hunter? What’s the other alternative besides RJ & those 3?
NY fans always wanting things in a NY minute. I get it but sometimes it’s ok to have just a really solid good player. Better than drafting the Knox, Franks, etc of the world.

Hawks traded: Hawks trade No. 8, No. 17, and No. 35 picks to Pelicans for No. 4, No. 57, a future second-round pick, and Solomon Hill

Could the Knicks have insisted on #8 and #10? for #3?

Herro, and Jaxson Hayes or Cam Reddish or PJ Washington or Cameron Johnson?

Again, that's a higher level kind of draft day move the Knicks don't make. Just spitballing. Hopefully RJ puts it all together.

Buzz - legitimate question for you.

RJs extension is going to come around sooner than we think. Before we know it he’s going to be eligible for the massive 5 year $200+ mill extension.

Now a lot can happen over the course of this year and next. Will be very interesting to see what he looks like at the end of next year.

Having said that - do you believe this front office is preparing (at least down the road) on this idea of giving him a large payday? We know he doesn’t have the upside of Zion and he’s certainly not JA at the moment so he’s not going to get $40 million per. But even if it’s along the lines of 5/$130 million do you truly feel that the Knicks will be willing to tie up all that cap long term to RJ? After all this is the same franchise who traded KP - warts and all, injuries and all, KP showed a lot more signs of stardom than RJ ever has.

With the news coming out that RJ’s work ethic has been suspect, I would look to trade him to the highest bidder right away!!!!

In related news, Julius Randle orders a Mocha Latte from center court while his teammates try in vain to hold down the fort on defense

Missed this.

Wow. Well, I'd hope they use all of next year to decide.
I'd agree he's in line for 20 million plus.
Randle and RJ's contracts were always going to be needles the Knicks FO had to thread, timing wise.
I honestly have no idea.
I'd have to think they are thinking of getting in a player before that decision, which is why I think most of the contracts are two year - so next season's trade deadline for player X, then extend RJ.
If he's not in the trade.

RJ isn't worth his rookie deal let alone a 200mil max! I'm still in his corner but...these extensions are ridiculous and no way they are looking to pay him that right now. He's trade bait before they do that. A lot can change but...right now... he's not even earning his current paycheck.

You're confusing working hard in scheduled practice and spending your personal time in gyms all night long. It's good advice from Thibs but don't go there.

Last yr the Knicks were extra when it comes to voluntarily going to gyms and working out. Thibs isn't married, has no kids and spends every moment of his life thinking about basketball. One would assume he'd use all that time to come up with an offense that isn't entirely based on isolating his PF but whatever. Doesn't mean RJs work ethic is suspect. Just means he didn't stay up till 3am shooting baskets.

Maybe he should go back to it is all Thibs is or should be saying, see what happens

They should have been on the phones after that Pelicans game it’s too late now the word is already out Thibs just killed his trade value

Hopefully he can have another good game before the deadline, surely he has just one more good game in his bag somewhere

Is RJ Barrett a bust?

I’m sure RJ will always be attractive to the Pelicans to pair with Fatman scoop, I mean Zion, if that’s what y’all are into. Reunite RJ with Zion and reunite Ingram with Randle. Hope y’all enjoy that.
