Gordon Hayward’s foot injury seven months ago opened a door for Bridges that he sprung through and never looked back. After putting up 20.1 points and 6.7 rebounds over his final 18 games (17 starts) in 2020-21, Bridges has erupted for averages of 25.5 points on 51/36/88% shooting, a scoring average that ranks 10th in the NBA through Friday night’s loss in Miami.
From last season to this season, he’s doubled his attempts in the restricted area (3.6 to 7.2), where he’s shooting 72% thanks to an impressive ability to finish with both hands. No longer confined to only the corners as a third or fourth option, Bridges is firing off more than twice as many above-the-break three-point attempts (2.8 to 6.0) and connecting on 39% of these shots.
Bridges is also second in the NBA in spot-up scoring right now (7.5 points on 42% shooting), after finishing with 4.3 on a 39% efficiency last season. He’s tied for 12th in transition points per game (5.0) and is doubling or close to doubling his previous seasonal output in points off turnovers (4.5), second-chance points (3.2), paint points (12.7) and fouls drawn (2.8).

Re: OG Hornet: The Miles Bridges Thread
Even if it was a low ball offer, i understand Hornets FO if the purpose is to lock roster players on team friendly contracts to have enough flexibility to extend Lamelo in 2 years while upgrading the roster before that.
Soon enough, Kupchak needs to find a replacement to Hayward (and its not like Bridges can bring what he brings at the wing), and a starting center (young and proven). Without ruining this team's depth
The idea of keeping Bridges at 20/y is probably because that is the max they 'can offer' without jeoperdizing the roster building. You dont keep Bridges at any price.
I would not be surprised if Kupchak prepares a significant offer sheet for Ayton for instance. And if it does not work, there are other targets which require some capspace
He could also trade for Mobley as he has trade assets to play with now.

Re: OG Hornet: The Miles Bridges Thread
Love how Miles is busting out wide open. But he will still need to contend with the defensive adaptations teams will use to target him (which Miami demonstrated recently). None of our best (Melo, Gordo, Miles) are so deadly that they can MJ whenever called upon. They take a shot, miss, and we have no serious big to consistently contend for a putback. It will take more time to learn how to share and attack. During that Miami comeback attempt, each player tried to go Superman on their own, and struggled. We still play our best with great ball movement, speed and sharing with the open man. It’s there, but crunch time will take some extra work.
Miles has future star written on his resume now. Early on didn’t think I’d say that, but his hard work has given him the opportunity.

I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Miles Bridges looks like a martial arts specialist when he plays defense.

Current Miles is the closest player I have seen to prime LJ. LJ was better rebounder and stronger, more of a bully in the post.... but Miles is close is size, skill, playing style, now that he has worked on his handles, and starting to use his size quickness to attack the rim. Miles better shooter. Of course LJ had LaMelo's level of media attention.

Re: OG Hornet: The Miles Bridges Thread
the leap miles has made this year, unexpectedly (for me), is similar to when kemba learned how to 3s one summer, after 5 years, and destroyed the league.

I expected a leap, but not like this. Truly amazing to me honest.

his improved handles have opened up everything for him. I never really expected him to average 20 for a season, even after last March-May taking over for Hayward. Thought he'd settle in as an efficient 15ppg guy, and it's one of the reasons why I wasn't even mad when we didn't offer a big extension. If this keeps up all season, i'll happily match any RFA contract he gets, no questions asked.

I thought we might have an all-star this year but I never expected it would be Miles.

You could see it coming toward the end of last season, but yeah - you guys got a flat-out stud there - terrific all-around player.

I remember a tweet about a year and a half ago where someone tweeted Miles saying SGA would be a way better player than Miles. Miles simply responded with "bet"
Here we are now and it's basically a dead heat. What a turnaround

Re: OG Hornet: The Miles Bridges Thread
Like a lot of the postseason awards, scoring can naturally take a precedent, but the across the board stat stuffing ways of Bridges leaves him in some rare company.
Giannis Antetokounmpo, Anthony Davis, Karl-Anthony Towns and Bridges are the only players in the league to be averaging 20+ points, 7+ rebounds, 1+ steal and 1+ block per game.
