I think they'd be stupid to trade him, but IF they'd consider a deal centered around White, Williams and Brown Jr, the Bulls should go for it. I'm usually not a fan of giving up on young players so quickly but I'm a big fan of Sabonis and just love the way he plays. I feel like this season is similar to last season in the sense that while there are a clear top 3-4 teams it's still up for grabs and Covid/injury could possibly take out one of the big names during the playoffs and open things up even more.

Sabonis is better than Turner and would be a better PF. The rumors of the two being broken up though have persisted for a couple seasons now, and it seems the pacers agree with my thoughts, that Turner is usually the one they want to move, or they would move Sabonis but it will cost a lot. It isn’t like he is too old either, I would imagine that if they can get prospects to build around him they would do that.

I'm still scratching my head over here why they aren't giving Marko a shot? I mean he can't really do much worse than Patrick Williams.

He probably isn't quick enough mentally in terms of defensive rotations, etc., coupled with being physically behind. Not to mention that he's a 2nd rounder and may simply not be talented enough to hang in the NBA.

Also, it's pretty clear - despite the constant state of quasi-denial we see by some folks on this forum - that Donovan is 100% committed to playing wing-sized players at the 4 to maximize mobility. Meaning Simonovic is behind not just Vuc but also Bradley and Alize Johnson at the 5... and Donovan would prefer to play the 6'5-6'6 Derrick Jones Jr. at the 5 over those guys, too.

I think that the super-small ball (especially when at the 5) is sorta nuts (minus stretches as a change of pace)... but I'm not the coach or GM, so my thoughts don't really matter...

Don't think Miles Turner would want to be 4th or 5th option here FYI

The only reason I'd be potentially down for a play for Sabonis would be if he becomes the contemplated Vuc replacement... and then I'd wonder what that would mean for Vuc's attitude through this season. Not to mention the impact of that kind of "disloyal" move on Derozan, LaVine, etc.

So, while I'm not against getting Sabonis (and think that, contra Vuc, the amount of assets expended to get Vuc would have been justified for a guy like Sabonis given his younger age) - I don't think it makes sense in a "go 'all in' for this year / next year" plan. [Harrison Barnes, otoh, could be...]

However, if the Bulls, this offseason, traded Vuc away while trading for Sabonis... I'd probably be for that (assuming the cost wasn't extravagant). But I don't think it's happening.

Even if I never thought of him before he did show up in last night's game but what about Dean Wade?

CLE has Allen and Markkanen signed to fairly long deals, Mobley is obviously the future, they'll eventually get rid of Love.

One thing to consider is do they think getting a veteran to come off the bench helps their chances of moving out of the play in and into the playoffs? What to watch might be if they trade Sexton what do they get back for him. Probably not another PG since they have Garland, they have Windler, Okoro and Osman at the wing.

Could they get someone in a Sexton deal that might make Wade expendable? And what could the Bulls offer to get him?

Winning cures all ills and I don't think it's an issue here because he would either start alongside Vuc or push Vuc to the bench which i think is appropriate considering Vuc's play so far this season. This is assuming Vuc isn't included in a potential 3-way deal to acquire Turner.

What do you all think about Bobby Portis this season? 15 and 9 off the bench for the bucks.

He fits worse than Vuc though, as frustrating as Vuc is to watch, he does draw defenders out, which Turner can’t. He would clog up a lot of space for DDR and Zach. He is also significantly lower in Pts, Rebounds and assists than Vuc for career and even this year in which Vuc is sucking. While he might start alongside him, he would be 5th option after Lonzo, he would be getting DJJ/Javonte’s usage. He would significantly upgrade the shot blocking though.

I do agree though winning cures many ills but I do think for years now he has wanted to be the man, and he honestly is not good enough to be the man.

I think we should be looking at being the 3rd team in a deal and nab someone else's PF or SG.

100% agree with that. I do actually believe at the trade deadline this year there are going to be players flying everywhere. There will be lots of opportunity to find a deal.

Myles Turner pros/cons compared to Vooch IMO:

Pros:
- Younger and more athletic (hey Gar!)
- Same timeline as Zach and Zo
- Can stretch the floor
- Can be your defensive anchor
- Better scoring output across the board this year despite smaller role (not a high bar obviously)
- Goes to the line more, tho not by much
- Costs less

Cons:
- Averages more turnovers than assists

He checks a lot of boxes that should make us salivate, but I think the one con might be a dealbreaker to play in Billy's system. They literally would need to revamp their entire offense.

Houston open to trading Christian Wood...

But not sure if he's quick enough on the perimeter for what Donovan and AKME seem to want at the 4. Seems like he'd be boxed into being a 5 on the Bulls. Although, like I said, I'm not sure of that - from the little of him I've seen this season, he seemed fairly quick laterally on defense (whether he's got the bball IQ for perimeter defense, I have no clue).

Edit: just went and watched a bit of Wood. Not really impressed. I now understand why he got the relatively low-ish contract that he did. Not sure that his production would translate to a good team.

Agreed, Myles Turner fits more on a team like BKN or LAL with star players playing more 1 on 1 type offense than a team oriented offense. The con of him being a horrible passer/awareness would affect the entire offense on this bulls team. He may not like it, but on offense, he is a glorified role player.

Sabonis on the other hand would fit like a glove playing that center hub position. He reminds me of Gasol in that regard, except we'd be getting him at 25 years old. I would instantly trade Vuc ++ for him.

Sabonis would be beautiful on this team. I'm sure AKME inquired on him before getting Vuc. Everybody is talking about signing Jokic in 2024 (rightfully so). Sabonis is another free agent that year. Either guys would be awesome.

Vuc drawing out defenders may have been true in the past (when he was actually hitting shots), but Vuc leads the league among centers with wide open 3s attempts a game (4.1/game). That means he's actually NOT drawing defenders out to the line, which makes sense since he started the season so cold and teams have scouting reports. Considering he shoots 4.7 total attempts, that's almost 90% of all 3s being wide open. Teams are basically saying, yea go ahead and shoot Vuc. I will say that Turner isn't that far behind though with 3 wide open attempts a game.

https://www.nba.com/stats/players/shots-closest-defender/?Season=2021-22&SeasonType=Regular%20Season&CloseDefDistRange=6%2B%20Feet%20-%20Wide%20Open&sort=FG3A&dir=1&PlayerPosition=C

Kind of funny that Lauri is tied with Vuc for the lead in this stat.

Oof, I just clicked the 2 pt attempts per game on the stat above, and Vuv leads the league in that also.

Double oof, I just clicked on all field goal attempts and Vuc is crushing everyone!
