Granted there are reports that they will blow it up but Kyrie and Simmons are both available too and deals haven’t been found. I think Indy ideally is looking to deal with like an OKC and get a bunch of draft assets instead of ?’s that are already years into their rookie deals. Maybe Pat but they would have to really believe in him, which I could understand if they didn’t. I surely have questions still.
I think they'd be stupid to trade him, but
IF they'd consider a deal centered around White, Williams and Brown Jr, the Bulls should go for it. I'm usually not a fan of giving up on young players so quickly but I'm a big fan of Sabonis and just love the way he plays. I feel like this season is similar to last season in the sense that while there are a clear top 3-4 teams it's still up for grabs and Covid/injury could possibly take out one of the big names during the playoffs and open things up even more.
Sabonis is better than Turner and would be a better PF. The rumors of the two being broken up though have persisted for a couple seasons now, and it seems the pacers agree with my thoughts, that Turner is usually the one they want to move, or they would move Sabonis but it will cost a lot. It isn’t like he is too old either, I would imagine that if they can get prospects to build around him they would do that.
The only reason I'd be potentially down for a play for Sabonis would be if he becomes the contemplated Vuc replacement... and then I'd wonder what that would mean for Vuc's attitude through this season. Not to mention the impact of that kind of "disloyal" move on Derozan, LaVine, etc.
So, while I'm not against getting Sabonis (and think that, contra Vuc, the amount of assets expended to get Vuc would have been justified for a guy like Sabonis given his younger age) - I don't think it makes sense in a "go 'all in' for this year / next year" plan. [Harrison Barnes, otoh, could be...]
However, if the Bulls, this offseason, traded Vuc away while trading for Sabonis... I'd probably be for that (assuming the cost wasn't extravagant). But I don't think it's happening.
