I grew up watching guys like that win DPOY while they hobbled up and down the court.I think the whole Bamba criticism thing has taken on a life of its own. This organization used the number 6 pick on him and then did everything they could to **** up his development. I can't imagine why anyone would expect him to be anything resembling a finished product at this point, but that seems to be the expectation.
Who?
As for the Bamba criticism, sure, it has you're not wrong but the flipside of that is because it's obvious there are issues. Wether it's the Magics fault or Mo's or both is for me at least at this point in time kind of pointless as a debate because looking at the future of this team now I don't know if Bamba should be a part of that for the money/role he may be expecting. We'll see.
I was referring to Mark Eaton and Manute Bol, who were the premier rim protectors in the 80s, but you can lump Mutombo and Ben Wallace into the mix as well.
I'm not arguing that Bamba isn't without his flaws, but the lack of a post game isn't among them. There are only a handful of guys in the NBA that are actually valuable in the post. It is probably useful on a situational basis for many other players when a particular mismatch dictates it, but Bamba's value is as a rim protector. Anything else is just icing on the cake. The mobility, the 3-point shooting, the rebounding, and the finishing around the rim could make him more than just a rim protection specialist, but none of that is really there yet. He is still very much a project with a lot of upside.
I know it seems as though I'm a Bamba apologist, but I'm really not. He has a lot to prove. It's undeniable that he alters a lot of shots any time he is on the floor though. That's an exceptionally valuable skill. We should have more answers than we do at this point, but we are where we are. I'm not making a decision on him until we have to make a decision on him.
"Xatticus has always been, in my humble opinion best poster here. Should write articles or something."
