Plan for this team always was Beal, I doubt that has changed.

Like listen to Brad today, he essentially said that he's not going to trade a Smart or Rob unless it's for a meaningful change, aka as Beal.

Yup I agree. There's a strong probability that Beal has been the plan for awhile now. The lazy analysis is to say there's a connection between Tatum & Beal...But in all reality that connection is beyond the majority of relationships that players have with their peers. Tatum/Beal are "brothers from different mothers" and their relationship is about as family orientated as you're going to find in the league.
Teams/players have to be careful about tampering rules. But with that said, I'd say there's a safe bet that Tatum/Beal/Brad Stevens understand that there's a real possibility of Beal joining Tatum in Boston. Beyond that I think the next question becomes does Brad & his staff envision a Beal/Tatum/Brown trio? Or are they keeping the relationship with Brown strong, but with the intent of possibly moving Brown for a star that better fits Beal/Tatum once Beal is in place?

I fully understand going after Beal when the timing is right but I don't love the pairing with Brown & Tatum. I know a lot of people won't want to hear it but I'd rather have Simmons than Brown with that core. Brown is the better player though and maybe we can get some extra pieces in a deal with Philly that could help ignite a trade with the Wizards.

This is IF Beal pretty much says "trade me to Boston":

Boston in:
Simmons (PHI)
Beal (WSH)
Bertans (WSH)

Philly in:
Brown (BOS)
Smart (BOS)

Washington in:
Maxey (PHI)
Horford (BOS)
Hernangomez (BOS)
Draft compensation (BOS)

Boston gets a couple stars and one pretty bad contract in Bertans. Philly gets Brown & Smart for Maxey & Simmons (who refuses to play for them). Washington gets Maxey as the prized young player along with draft compensation from us.

Pretty much every team passed on Bane, harping on the Celtics trading the pick is silly.

Brad and Danny ainge see things pretty different from what I hear from people who I respect and would know. Danny ainge also had the final say then and I’m sure wasn’t always in step with Austin ainge on things just like him and brad apparently weren’t. Brad also has final say now

There needs to a filter on here to prevent trade ideas like this :(

Maxes isn’t a “prized young player” and why is it we always get the much better end of every trade lol

Realistic trade for Beal would be for Jaylen because then he could go be his wokest self with the other lizard people in D.C. and nurture his impending political career, with a third team involved to take care of draft picks and salary considerations.

This is to try to make Tatum happy and keep him from demanding a trade. Assuming we don’t gut the team to get it done we become a sure-fire playoff team and threat in the East. Beal gives us another guy who can run the PnR which Brown can’t do because of his abysmal handle and BBIQ. This would help spread the floor. And since Jaylen no longer plays defense we lose little on that end.

I still think there’s as good a chance of Tatum demanding out, us rebuilding, and trading him to WASH for their glut of young players after the season. We’d also trade our other vets.

Absent a Beal trade or complete rebuild, as I predicted, we’ll remain a mediocre pretender for years with no real reason to watch games. Absolutely pointless, spinning our wheels, Pacers/Trailblazer type era which is the very worst place to be if you’re a fan. Owners love it though because seats are still filled and they never have to pay luxury tax

Even if I think they should trade for him the most likely thing the Celtics do is pass on dame....get beal with the S&t and then see how the fit is w the jays.

If it’s redundant or doesn’t work you just move brown after the fact. Getting beal if they did, not only improves the team but just creates paths of flexibility for us that we need.

Yep, need to see how they work together first before dealing off Brown.

I don't think the 2019-2020 team, which went 48-24 and reached the ECF was a fluke. Tatum and Brown just need some shooters around them.

There is a big difference between a team passing on bane versus selling our pick just to get some tax money. At least the other team has a young prospect to show in its place place we have the guy we got rid of twice Enis Kanter.

You might say we also passed on him 3 different times so it's much worse for Boston

Moving the pick was bad, nobody has said otherwise. But blasting them for being one of the 29 teams that passed on Bane is silly.

Well it's not like the only pick we messed up in the last few years so I agree

Despite your terrible basketball takes and terrible medical/political takes, I somehow didn't expect that toxic stew.

This thread has become so pathetic. Virtually all the proposals involve more help for Tatum and Brown, plus a few "radical" proposals that involve trading Brown.

So, do you think that Marcus Smart, Rob Williams, Kevin Durant and James Harden might form the core of a contending team?
What about Marcus Smart. Rob Williams, Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Jordan Poole?
What about Marcus Smart, Rob Williams, LeBron James and Anthony Davis (assuming everyone's health)
Lastly, How about Marcus Smart, Rob Williams, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jrue Holiday?

The problem with the Celtics isn't the lack of help for Tatum and Brown. The problem is Tatum and Brown.

Tatum is 23, Brown is 25
Curry is 33, Green is 31
Lebron is 37, AD is 28
Giannis is 27, Holiday is 31

The question is not where Tatum and Brown are right now, it's what are they going to be in 2-3 years.

Celtics fans are just impatient.

It would be dumb to trade either one right now in my opinion.

The most frustrating part of all this is how close they've come to hitting big in the draft. They wouldn't desperately need a talent infusion if they hadn't messed up the draft so badly. Hero went 13th in front of Romeo at 14th in 2019. Haliburton went 12th ahead of Nesmith at 14th in 2020. And in both of those drafts they had future/surplus picks, you gotta think they could have moved up. Celtics traded the 16th pick which ended up being Sengun in 2021 (in order to save about 8 million dollars by swapping Kemba for Horford). 2020 traded the #30 which became Bane to save some money dumping Kanter.

Just. So. Close.

Well, that's the question. I would be more optimistic if either Tatum or Brown had improved one iota between the bubble and now. They have not, and Tatum regressed as soon as he got the big money.

As it is, yes, I'm impatient, not only for a championship (I've given up any hope of banner #18 in my lifetime) but just for some consistently good, unselfish basketball. I want them both gone.

And just to be clear, also trade Smart, Rob Williams and anyone else on the roster if you get the right return. I want a complete teardown and rebuild.

Hypotheticall speaking,
If you were GM with full autonomy

What would you do?

How are you changing the teams Culture and building for a faster run at banner 18+?

Steph & Klay didn't win anything until they were 27 & 25. They got bounced from the playoffs in the 1st round the prior year.

Curm would have blown up the Warriors when Steph & Klay were 26 & 24.

FWIW, this is the latest article i found where Beal talks about whether he's staying in Washington:
https://nba.nbcsports.com/2021/12/17/wizards-star-bradley-beal-on-contract-extension-im-being-selfish-for-first-time-in-career/

Kind of seems like it's a 50/50 at this point whether he stays in Washington beyond this season.

We're currently 1 game behind Washington for the 9 seed. How well the Celtics and Wizards do over the course of the rest of the season could play a big part in whether he wants to come here next summer.

If the wizards end up being better than us, Beal likely won't want to come here - he'll likely either resign with WAS or go somewhere he has a better shot at a ring.

But if we can a) finish better than the wizards and b) make a decent rise up the east standings (like finish in the top 5 or 6 in the east), I think that greatly increases the odds Beal forces a trade to BOS. If we can get past the 1st round, even better - at this point, that seems like a long shot, though :/
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)
