That is pretty much why it will be revised or removed at some point. cases are exploding, spread is vast and cant really be contained much. Vaccines help reduce likelyhood of complication, but its spreading regardless. Which given its (so far) producing lesser symptoms then prior strands, a good thing.
We should reach herd immunity or endemic status. It is getting closer and closer to being at the risk levels of the common cold or the flu. Their is no political pressure to keep these mandates anymore especially when the science doesnt support it. The mandates are not preventing spread and we arent seeing ICUs overwhelming (overall admission are up, but not ICU admissions)
looking at south africa, who is only 25% vaccinated, the end is likely in sight of this being a pandemic
Youre just looking at it from your point of view.
It doesn't matter what you think is right. It matters how politicians view it in NYC.
Cases right now are at an all time high and there is no appetite at all to repeal mandates. Saying they are not preventing the spread is just a lie. They do help prevent the spread.
Maybe in a few months once Omicron passes we may start to see a relaxation of regulation. Right now nothing is going to happen.
Kyrie just needs to get the **** shot.
Democrats are no longer fighting for lockdowns and restrictions in the senate. there is no political pressure for mandates any more. The vaccine has not prevented the spread of the new strain. NY just peaked for positive cases despite its highest vaccination rate. Looking at the NBA as a microcosm, 99% vaccination rate but infections plaguing the league.
Cases being high is not an independent variable for risk. Risk factors in the mortality rate and rate of hospitalization. If we did testing for the common cold, cases would be sky high too, but we dont, cause its minor for most of the population.
Americans are no longer gung ho on mandates. they want freedom to move around. the political pressure isnt there like it was a year or even a quarter ago. and the science doesnt justify the mandate.
The mandate WILL end. the only question is when. id assume Q1 this year when we have over the counter and perscription treatment for covid infections and omicron has spread and shown little impact.
What are you even talking about?
Lockdowns are done at the state level. Democrats in the Senate have nothing to do with lockdowns.
And the federal mandate is still being implemented and enforced. I know that for a fact due to my job. Which is up to the White House not the Senate.
There may be fervor for not having mandates in certain parts of the country. Definitely not NYC where mandates are broadly popular.
Youre not getting it. Politicians in NYC are not going to repeal the mandate in the middle of a massive surge. Its not going to happen.
Whether you want it to our not.
They will only be repealed once COVID is squarely under control and there is no new dangerous variant on the horizon.
