We just got our starting line up back together. KAT and DLo were rusty, and we still boosted our Net Rtg.

142 minutes, 136.9 OFF Rtg, 86.4 DEF Rtg, 50.5 Net Rtg.

To me, this affirms that Gupta should be reluctant to trade for a starter, and Finch would be unlikely to insert a different player and change the chemistry.

I would also add that I listened to the Smitty’s Front Office show podcast last night, and he selected MIN as one of his most likely teams to make a trade. He likes to focus on asset flexibility, and MIN has many expirings and all its own picks. He suggested the likely candidates of Harrison Barnes and Jerami Grant, but I think it’s more likely we make a smaller trade for someone in our bench rotation. It was not fun losing the starters to a Covid, but it has made me much more confident in our bench of Naz, Jaden, and Nowell. I think Beasley will turn it around. I wouldn’t mind a better vet back up PG in case of injuries to DLo or Bev, a swingman shooter, or a defensive big.

As it's been said ad naseam, we need another PF. We've only got one. I'd prefer to keep Vandy with the starters as he is more valuable in that role and pick up a rotation caliber veteran PF.

Unless KAT becomes a PF at least some of the time and you get a rotation quality center or give Naz some time with KAT.

I would say strike two. Cole is not Wiggins for many reasons. And with that said, look what Wiggins is doing in a deferent/better situation.

Prince and one of Denver or Washington Second Rounders for Terrance Ross.

Beasley, Reid, Bolmaro top 5 protected pic for Myles Turner

Sign Demarcus Cousins

Beverly/Nowell/McLaughlin
DLo/Ross
Edwards/McDaniels/Layman
KAT/Vando
Turner/Cousins/Knight

Turner keeps the defense strong despite replacing Vando, but gives us the spacing we need. Ross gives us a microwave off ball player who can put it on the floor to bolster the bench scoring with Nowell. Cousins gives us a very talented offensive vet to take pressure off of the starting bigs when they sit.

We need a big that's a banger. Someone that can add toughness to our bigs. I still want a veteran swingman to replace Prince/Okogie, and a vet PG for when Beverly or Dlo sit to replace Mclaughlin might not be bad either.

A more consistent than Prince big wing would help immensely. Then sign defensive minded big for vetmin.

Celtics pundits are calling for a shooter. I feel like Beasely would make sense there but I am not sure what I even would want from them

Edit: Apparently that have a large trade exception. A deal with them could make sense.

So i"ve read that Boston has like a $17M trade exception. I don't really understand this part of the cap rules, but would some like this work?

Boston gets Beasely and Nathan Knight (We can trade 2-way guys right?)

We get Grant Williams

Edit: And throw in Nesmith because Knight might be promising.

Good find. I like to think of a Traded Player Exception as the salary matching part to finish a previous trade. Many people think a TPE is something a team can trade, so you avoided that pitfall. It simply allows a team to absorb salary without matching. It’s like cap space for teams that are over the cap. TPE’s only last one year, and they can’t be combined with other TPE’s, so they can only take in a player that fits under the TPE. For example, here you would have:

MIN GIVES: Beasley ($14.3) and Knight (no salary)
MIN GETS: Williams ($2.6)

This creates a $11.7 TPE for MIN.

BOS GIVES: Grant Williams ($2.6)
BOS GETS: Beasley and Knight (absorbed into $17 mil Fournier TPE)

This creates a $2.6 mil TPE for BOS.

Alas, this is all for naught. You are correct that this is a legal trade, but since the Celtics are over the luxury threshold, it would be extremely expensive. $11.7 mil in payroll would likely cost them an additional $25 mil in luxury taxes.

I don’t know how the Celtics feel about Josh Richardson as a shooter, but a deal probably starts there. Richardson is hitting 40% this season, but on only 3.5 (likely easier) attempts a game, and is an average shooter for his career (36%). Beasley is only shooting 34% this season so far, but on 8.8 attempts a game, and is a 38% career shooter. Moving Richardson provides minutes for Beasley.

Neither team wants to take on salary, so to make it nearly salary-neutral, we could do this

MIN GETS: Richardson and Juancho
BOS GETS: Beasley and Layman

Speaking of trade exceptions, one cool feature is that BOS could absorb both MIN players in two of their exceptions, and create two new exceptions with a fresh one year clock.

I’d probably do this deal. Josh Richardson has been all over the board since he was so promising back in MIA. I’m a little worried for our team to trade shooting, since we lead the NBA in 3PA and are near the bottom in 3P%. However, Josh Richardson is a better defender than Malik, and I think he provides a better balance to find Jaylen Nowell some minutes. I’d even include a 2nd, and then start shopping Okogie for a 2nd or some extra room under the lux.

I understand that Lakers fans are not happy about DeAndre Jordan's play right now, but is he worth a look for some backup C minutes?

Who is more realistic in acquiring...Cousins or Jordan? Who would be more valuable with our current roster?

If so it would be when teams can sign 10 days absent Covid, or if we get another chance to sign a Covid hardship contract.

Any chance of getting Jalen Smith? Would him and Towns work?

Beasley to Boston
Richardson to Min
Juancho, cash, and a 2nd from Min to OKC

Boston and Min get better fits
Boston gets closer to ducking the tax
Min gets more room below the tax
OKC gets assets for taking on Juancho

Ideally this could be adjusted to get Boston below the tax.

Richardson doesn’t have the value some of you think. his glory days in Miami are far behind him.

I do. I think you underestimate the value of having KAT on the floor drawing the attention of the defense. I also think you are ignoring the fact that this was Dlo’s best shooting game of the season and Ant hit 5/5 3s in the first quarter. Outside of the 10/14 Ant has rarely gone off like that. KAT is the only consistent offensive weapon on a team that craves consistency. 3 blocks and 5 assists isn’t insignificant either.

Sabonis is a 30.4% 3 point shooter and a 31.8 career 3% shooter. His game is low post and dunker spot. The biggest advantage of KAT is that he can score from any level. Ant needs the lane open, Sabonis closes it. That said, Sabonis is a rebounding machine and does well in the low post. He would be an excellent addition, but by himself he is nowhere near the value of KAT.

While I don't necessarily want to start the KAT Trade Train again, I'll agree that the whining is really, REALLY getting old
