He was drafted by Philly when Eversley was there, then got traded to OKC where he played for Donovan, and then got traded to Denver where AK was Assistant GM. All our decision makers know him.
No, he's not very efficient or a great defender since he's been in Detroit, but then again, who is? I don't think anyone should put that against anybody playing for the worst team in the league. His numbers were much better when he was playing on better teams.
I agree with the reasoning of your post. However, I would be somewhat surprised... apart from being available, he doesn't really solve our troubles.
His salary ($20M) is a bit too much, we'd have to give up a number of pieces in order to make the trade compliant. Along the lines of DJJ, Coby + more just to get close to making it CBA compliant. Then you have to ask, is he worth that?
Also, there is another financial element in that we're right at the tax threshold for this season. While I don't doubt MR would sign off on paying the tax, it begins the countdown on the repeater tax. I think they're biding their time for Zach's extension to kickstart that element... makes more financial sense.
Grant I feel doesn't move the needle enough to warrant the pieces we'd need to give up, nor warrant the financial implications yet. I think our front office knows we're more than 1 piece away... and we need more time and experience together as a unit. Unless we're able to somehow trade for a hidden gem on a rookie contract (in exchange for Coby)... I just don't see it currently.
