DJJ plus P-Will is enough to get it done, but we would be really close to the tax line since that trade adds about $2.9M in salary. But the big problem is next year....$21M on the books instead of $7.7M.
With that said, if the Bulls want to "go for it" this year and next year, that might be the way to go (or Harrison Barnes).
The end of the 2022-23 season would usher in tons of change.
Ayo, White, Barnes/Grant, Vuc, Bradley, and Greene would all be FA's. A lot of S&T's would need to happen to stay competitive with an aging DD.
I share your concern about his rebounding..that has never ever been his strong suit, especially for a “power forward.”
That said, he would instantly become the biggest and most athletic body on the team, if we can get him to commit to his role which would include crashing super **** hard, I think we would feel his impact. He’d be there to sky up for some of those loose balls Vuc just taps out to whoever gets it. Not great, but an addition to our efforts for sure.
I’m more encouraged by what he represents defensively. Throughout his entire career he has been a guy to slide over for a helpside block, which in my eyes is exactly what we need behind Vuc. He’s also, as mentioned, a big long athlete who has shown flashes of being formidable as an on-ball defender.
He’s not GREAT in either area, but if he comes here to commit to playing that role and promising to maximize what he CAN do, I think he’s enough. Offensively he fits like a glove.
Not for Coby; but for Pat, DJJ, and Portland’s 1st I would do it.
