What happens when a team wants a Two-Way Player from another team?
Can the two-way player be traded?
He cannot sign with the other team that wants him since he is bounded by the two-way contract.
What can be done here?

Two way contract is still a contract. I’m not 100% certain, but my guess is he can be traded just like standard contract guys, then they’re just assigned to the new teams G League team.

Pretty **** post coming from someone who has a small post count over 8 years. It's a good question for a basketball message board and spending 30 mins going through the CBA for an answer wouldn't be high on many peoples to do list.
Warning - don't bring up someone's post count. That's irrelevant and unnecessary antagonistic.

My post count is wholly irrelevant. That's a cute non sequitur though.
That said, I've been around a LOT longer than what my post count would indicate as a casual reader and just never felt the need to set up an account. That said, I have other things to do than visit a message board and post about hoops all day, every day. That's no slight to those who wish to do precisely that, but I've got other things to do with my time. Your mileage may vary.
What it amounts to is, in a word, laziness. OP could have done a cursory search on Google or any other engine of his choice, pulled up the CBA, used the search feature in his browser, and found the relevant section.
If it took more than five minutes all in, you're not trying.
Come on, dude. You have to do better than that.

There's a difference between discussion and laziness. This thread feels more like the latter, along with your attempt at some semblance of wit.
This took all of two seconds, quite literally:

Two-way players can be traded (30 days after signing the two-way contract.)

I only remember one two-way player being traded and that was Johnathan Motley in 2018. He was traded with the rights for a foreign guy in exchange for the draft rights to some foreign guy. Not sure how it would work for a team trading a for a two-way guy that they want on a regular contract but they already have two two-way guys on the team.

Looks like they can be traded. Don't know what the rules are beyond this please do not ask me.
WAITING PERIOD FOR NEW CONTRACTS
A draft rookie who signs a standard NBA player contract or any player who signs a Two-Way Contract may not be traded until 30 days following the date on which he signed his contract.
A free agent who signs a standard NBA player contract (or a player who signs, or is converted to, a standard NBA player contract while under a Two-Way Contract) cannot be traded for three months following the date the contract is signed or until December 15 of the Salary Cap Year in which the contract is signed, whichever is later.

Re: What happens when a team wants a Two-Way Player from another team?
Really aren't any. They count as nothing in terms of salary matching, but receiving team can't have more than 2 two ways at any point in time, so they'd either have to clear the two way spot before the trade or send out a two way guy themselvesSixerscan wrote:https://www.nba.com/news/nba-trade-deadline-explainedWAITING PERIOD FOR NEW CONTRACTS

Maybe you should have spent more than two seconds on it, since your link says nothing about trading a two-way player. Conversions are different than trades.

Re: What happens when a team wants a Two-Way Player from another team?
It's relative to the process of making a trade, which was the basis for the thread, as the contract has to be converted in order to do so. That link was but one of a few I saw and the first I grabbed as an example.xdrta+ wrote:SkyBill40 wrote:YogurtProducer wrote:Or, the answer by someone Knowledgable could be posted for all.

I could have taken it directly from the CBA as someone else did, but I had no intention of doing any more work for someone who didn't do any to begin with and before posting the thread.

A two-way contract does not have to be converted to a standard contract to be traded, so I don't know what you are on about.

AFAIK they're still counted as 2-way players, so the regular rules apply...essentially you need space for them. Apart from that? I don't think there's anything more to it.
Teams just don't do it because there's no value in it. Most 2-way guys don't make an impact and the few that do...well, why would you give that up?

Never said I was an expert on the CBA nor even insinuated anything to that end.xdrta+ wrote:A two-way contract does not have to be converted to a standard contract to be traded, so I don't know what you are on about.
There are two lines in there about two way contracts, one which talks about when they can be traded and another which talks a two way contract being converted to a standard contract. Both have different guidelines and time frames. Shangrila has the deets in his post above this one.
Again, we're doing work the OP could have and should have done. Whatever.
