The right one - trading the vets for youth and picks. Can't expect a ton, but Buddy is good for winning a few games each year when he gets on fire, so moving him and Barnes should be enough to help us lose a few more games. Could possibly look at moving Holmes to Charlotte for picks/youth as well. Tristan, Len, Harkless to any contender looking for a bench player.
The Wrong path - Trading youth for vets to help us win now. If this is the path they take, then Mitchell could be traded. However, if the Celtics take Williams, Brown, Tatum off the table, what is really left? Richardson has ups and downs, Smart is an upgrade to Mitchell but whats the pt there for the Celtics?
It has to be a trade where its Mitchell + Barnes + picks for a true upgrade. So far it seems Celtics fans would be unwilling to include Brown in that type of a deal. (and I don't blame them)
What's the latest stance on Bagley? Is he perceived still a negative asset to get out of or even anybody to consider extending?
This isn't exactly a blockbuster nor massive needle mover for either, but in my dumb opinion this might be mutually beneficial.
SAC gets:
Horford (2 years)
Richardson (2 years)
BOS gets:
Barnes (2 years)
Bagley (1 year)
Len (1 year) - (optional, salary not required to make the deal work with the other 4. Just using Boston as a dumpster)
Benefit for SAC - get's out of Bagley and potential uncertainty. Gets some decent veteran players who aren't going to get in the way of your young core. Dumps Len's contract for funsies (optional). A "do something" move without sacrificing Mitchell or Haliburton.
Benefit for BOS - Get a friend of Tatum in Barnes. A change of scenery project in Bagley (which could be a dumpster fire). Lowered line for year 2.
Honestly I don't know. Bagleys growth was clearly stunted by injuries and Walton. Since we fired Walton hes played some really good basketball. Playing within the team, not forcing his offense, trying on defense, rebounding, not making bad decisions. I still think hes got a good amount of untapped potential at 22 years old. Barring injuries I have him developing into a low end starter/high end bench big. His dad seems to have been the biggest hinderance, thinking his son is the 2nd coming of Michael Jordan.
I personally would love to resign him for 2 years and give him a chance to truly develop with a good coaching staff. But the bridge may be burnt beyond repair.
I don't really see what the point is for Sac to make that type of a deal. I have Barnes > Richardson, and expirings > Horford. We would be better off even just letting Len/Bagley expire and moving into next year with Barnes, or trading him for youth/picks.
