Yeah, that was more the spirit of my post.

We’re an 11-35 team who’s eyes are already transfixed multiple years into the future. There isn’t a ton to talk about in terms of the here and now. It was more of a resigned shrug and a “ oh hey, I guess we’re talking about this now” sort of deal.

The problem is Drummond wasn’t just a garbage man defensive guy when he was here. Sure he’s doing that on a cotender, but he’s going to want to get more touches than Saddiq here. That was always his problem. He forces things. Now if he played within himself, would he be exactly what we needed? Yes, but I haven’t seen that Drummond since 2016. Nurkic is the type of player we needed last night.

It may be a bit murkier than that. Can we definitely quantify how much of that was Drummond, vs. how much was scheme? Because I recall a pretty concerted effort on the part of the Pistons to try and establish him. I mean, we can nitpick his decision making and ability to actually deliver, but I don't think it's entirely fair to just say he "wanted more touches". What are you actually basing that on? You just admitted that in a different situation he was playing a different role, so I guess I'm unclear on why you are locked onto this notion other than it's just popular to bash the guy and blame him for all our problems.

I'm not sure how that is relevant either way. Do we have a member of either the Pistons coaching staff or front office stating that they would like Dre to have a smaller role? Shoot less? Clearly we moved on at the end but he was a huge focus for the team. We marketed around the guy and clearly tried to make him a threat. Which makes sense; it would have been to our benefit if he actually developed. But when that didn't happen we pulled the plug. Again, as we should have.

With Stuckey at the helm attacking the rim and wearing their guards down by barreling into them for charging fouls, I think we would have easily won

Hell, having any starter level center on the market would've made a night and day difference in this game, not just Drummond. If anyone kept tabs on him around the league, he's actually pretty good as a backup big. Which is probably all he ever meant to be we were just the bad front office that gave him that extension and the green light play outside of his role
