I think any dreams BOS is having about MIN trading away McDaniels will have to remain dreams.
After Thibs, Rosas, and Covid, MIN doesn’t have any true insiders. However, our best local writer is probably Jon Krawcinski of the Athletic, who solely covers the NBA (Wolfson tries to cover all MIN sports). Krawcinski recently wrote these notes
* KAT and ANT are the 2 untouchables
* Jaden McDaniels would require 'a massive return'
* Jarred Vanderbilt and D’Angelo Russell are only available in packages for stars
* Jaylen Nowell is available but only for an elite shooter
* Taurean Prince's good play means he is less likely to be moved than he was a month ago
* Both Minnesota and Pat Bev are interested in a contract extension - likely he stays
* Confirms the Wolves turned down Malik Beasley for Josh Richardson + Nesmith but he is available
I think the order here is important, and to the front office, McDaniels is likely valued even more than Vando and DLo, who have been playing great as starters. For the last year, we have heard almost unbelievable praise for McDaniels. Wolfson’s opinion of McDaniels or a 1st seems quite off - MIN probably values McDaniels >> a 1st.
