I love Fangio, but I'm a fan of Wink too. Runs similar concepts to Graham, but way more aggressive.
outside of a 3-4 I think they run completely different schemes.
For example Graham is a soft zone coverage bend but dont break style defense.
Wink is a blitz heavy man 2 man guy out of the 3-4 scheme.
So expect a complete overhaul of the defensive roster.
I would guess any high priced defensive players are on the block or potentially get cut.
Wink wants multiple defenders that can blitz and corners that can be trusted in man coverage.
I would expect Bradberry (trade) and Martinez (cut) as too very likely things to happen because they aren't scheme fits for Wink's defense and make a lot of money.
I wouldn't rule out a CB high in the draft now either...since Wink puts a lot of his secondary to do what he wants to do in terms of manufacturing pressure.
Did Graham always run a "bend don't break" or was that because he had no pass rush with us?
From what I recall, Graham was super blitz happy the first 2-3 games of the season, but we couldn't get to the QB so we got shredded. He then sat back in the zone.
Wink will need the same changes that Graham would have needed to run his actual system.
Wink doesn't really need high end pass rushers though because he manufacturers pressure with exotic blitzes.
He just needs a trustworthy secondary. He had top defensive in the league all up until last year because the ravens secondary was riddled with injuries but Wink did not adjust he just kept sending blitzes
I think in Miami Graham still ranked in the middle of the back in terms of blitzes and he is one of the top in terms of 3 man pressures.
Graham had a trust worthy secondary this year he just doesn't send exotic blitzes....not his scheme. And he likes to run a lot of zone coverages.
For example in 2019 when Wink was in BAL and Graham was in MIA.
Wink ran DB blitzes 28% of the time. The next highest in the league was 18%. He is a high risk high reward defense. Which I don't mind because QB's now pick apart soft zone defenses. Its why the Giants were a disaster in 2-minute situations.
I guess what I'm trying to say is Patrick Grahams defense requires big time edge guys to win there matchups to get pressure. Wink will get pressure just on sheer volume of his blitzes.
