I agree. In my opinion Barnes is better than Grant. And I expect mitchell to take a bigger leap year 2 due to his age. They should only be available for a real impact player (like a sabonis)

Few notes with Sabonis impact on the team

1. He makes Barnes better. They both operate inside, and Barnes is smart enough to put himself in a good position for an easy pass.

2. Hes going to make Fox/mitchell better. My biggest issue with mitchell this season has been how often he gets blocked at the rim. Sabonis has the gravity to clear space for him. My fault I never noticed that before.

3. Hes going to make random athletic guys like Metu better. If you cut and can get towards the rim, he will find you. Even if he doesn't have the ball, he opens it up for the guards to find you.

Weird thought, sabonis creates spacing without being a big 3pt threat.

Let's put #3 in a bowl, and mix it with #1. I think that could become one of the best things out of this. Barnes will teach Metu about positioning etc.
The Black Falcon played with Bogues in GS and got plenty of easy baskets from cuts. He knows how to play that role. I'm hoping Metu not taking a 3 continues. Don't get me wrong, I want him to take them if he is wide, wide open, but look at him in this game, he not only gave up 3s that he was taking before, but he didn't dribble in and take a mid-range jump shot. He drove the ball aggressively. Hopefully he saw the results of tonight and wants to continue improvement.
Now, he needs to get better defensively because it's hard with Fox, Sabonis, Metu out there together, but offensively it looks good.
He is 24 so now is the time for him to start showing the improvement if he wants another contract.

But 32 assists tonight, and 40% from 3 on 30 attempts.

Moving buddy cannot be glossed over. That is huge for this team.

I still maintain Fox's issues were with Buddy/Bagley. Not having Tyrese cutting into his role. I'm not suggesting it didn't have anything to do with it. These guys are pros and have egos so he wouldn't have been completely happy. But it's telling what James Ham said about Fox, him heading into training camp and the fact Buddy and Bagley had both consistently asked out, didn't want to be here and, yet they're still here.
It's definitely a mix.

You've been working somewhere for a few years and produced great results, on pace to become the manager. Suddenly your office hires a young stud straight out of business school gunning for your job, and they still haven't fired the Karen that makes the entire environment crappy. They also haven't gotten you sales tools to help your productivity.

Then suddenly you come to work and all of those things are solved in one day?

These are human beings man. I've had bad days at work, we all have. Fox has had bad years lol.

Ya metu is young enough with limited career minutes to still improve. Right now he's not good enough to be a starter, but I like him as a bench option at the 4 and possibly 5.

Appears we just acquired Trey Lyles, Josh Jackson, Donte DiVencenzo.

Gave up Bagley is all I've seen so far.

How in the world did we sneak into this deal and get those pieces back for Bagley?? Wow. Either we cut a couple guys like Woodard/Ramsey/King or another move is on the way with one of those guys being flipped with Holmes.

Not just good, this is absolutely incredible. Donte had a great trajectory pre injury. 38% from 3 on 5 attempts, can pass the ball (YESSSSS), and 3 consecutive seasons of good defense.

Hes going to be rusty and need to get paid after this year. But Monte got his guy.

My guess is Len is going to get traded today to clear a spot. Contenders will want a big body.

But Id imagine Woodard is 100% cut.

I'll be honest.

I thought Bagley had some value. I liked the way he played for us since Walton got fired. His defense on Lebron those 2 games was the best of his career.

I just don't see Detroit as the team to salvage his career. Cade, whoever they draft this year, Bey, and Grant? Where are the touches going to come from?

Daddy Bagley is probably celebrating, but he will be complaining soon enough.

And Bagley.

Sabonis/Jones
???/Metu
Barnes/Lamb
Holiday/???
Fox/Mitchell

Could use another shooting guard, and a legit 3 or 4 to play next to Barnes.

I wish davis never got hurt ;/

Convo from game thread moved over here. Well they addressed the backup 2g spot. Also some additional center depth.

Now time for the move we've all been waiting for! Holmes for PJ I'm going to keep yelling it until it happens!

For starters DiVincenzo has been really bad since returning from injury (he's only played 17 games so far). He's also a (restricted) free agent this summer.

Second Jackson is just a filler.

Lyles has been OK and could be a decent 4th or 5th big I guess.

That could be a blessing in disguise.

We may be able to resign him for a cheaper 3 year deal because of the injury. And hes definitely young enough to bounce back.

Lyles can play. At worst an upgrade over Metu and great contract with a team option for next season

Lyles?

his conversation eventually turned into a tangent about the five worst cities in the NBA. Lyles, who grew up in Indianapolis after moving from Canada as a 7-year-old, rattled off four cities: Detroit, Memphis, Milwaukee and Sacramento (“It’s horrible,” he said).
