I'm still surprised that Layman plus a 2nd or two didn't get moved to OKC. Having the salary flexibility from dumping Layman would have been extremely useful down the stretch.
Same with the Kings. They just got a 6 million dollar trade exemption and are well under the tax. If anyone would want an extra second it would be the Kings.
Trade exceptions don't mean the owners don't have to pay the salary. Why pay millions for him to wear a suit on game days?
Just read on CBAFAQ that season salaries are usually on biweekly basis, beginning 11/15. 24 checks means Layman has only earned 1/4th of his 2021-22 salary, less than $1 million.
Are you sure? I was reading it is based on days in the season. 31 in March, 10 in April, and 11-28 in February assuming trade midday of the deadline. 59 days left. Season started October 19. 13 days in October, 30 in November, 31 in December, 31 in January, 10 in February to that point. 115 days passed, 59 to go. 174 days, 59 left. 59/174 = 33.9%. Layman is making approximately 3.9 million so he is still owed at that point approximately 1.3 million. For a 2nd round pick that isn’t that expensive. Plus we could have given maybe 300k in cash and still and enough left over to sign or convert another prorated player. Assuming my math is correct (not my specialty.)
