Mark Jackson was a good floor general. Too bad he’s a terrible leader
And so on and so on
Mark Jackson did not fail as a leader.
Mark Jackson got a Warrior team that was beaton down, did not play defense and did not make the playoffs.
Mark Jackson created a team that did make the playoffs and did play defense.
When Jackson was fired the players were upset. The players wanted Jackson to stay.
Knicks Mark Jackson had some speed.
Pacers Mark Jackson was a slow point guard but a great Passer.
Mark Jackson cut the Knicks apart with his passing. Against the Bulls the Bulls had to put Scottie Pippen on Jackson and have Pippen be physical with Jackson. In that era even more than now stars don't get called for fouls. Pippen was fouling Jackson but the calls were not made because Pippen was a bigger star than Jackson.
The Pacers set a lot of screens for both Jackson and Reggie Miller. Jackson needed those screens because he was a slow point guard.
Steph is a slow point guard. Steph had his career assists peak under Jackson. Jackson was having a lot of picks set for Steph.
Now days so often in game threads there are a handfull of posters begging for Curry to play on the ball. We saw Curry on the ball under Mark Jackson. Mark Jackson was trying to make Steph into Mark Jackon with a shot. Kerr took Curry off the ball to make Steph into a super version of Steve Kerr the player who was an off the ball only sort of a point guard player.
Kerr was right and Jackson was wrong. Steph is a better weopon off the ball. Of course that would Kill Stephs assists numbers but who cares. Jackson was a top 10 passer of all time. Steph is not a bad passer but Steph is not an elite passer but Steph is the best shooter of all time so getting Steph off the ball as a catch and shoot shooter is better than Steph on the ball as a passer that sometimes shoots off the dribble.
But Mark Jackson failed leader? No, Jackson was wildly successfull as the leader of the Warriors. Jackson turned the team arround. Steph just brought in the Spurs and Suns thinking and took the team to a higher level. Could Kerr have gotten a team that did not play defense and did not believe in itself turned arround like Jackson did? We don't know.
Jackson seems like a failure as a TV analyst but Jackson did not fail as a Warriors coach. Jackson got the team ready for Kerr.
