Michael Beasley still was not at the gym, despite his very first basketball workout with the Miami Heat training staff being scheduled for 8am that day. The very first summer league game of the off-season was right around the corner. WHERE WAS MICHAEL BEASLEY?
Spoelstra and the Heat coaching staff made their way to Beasley's hotel room, where they found him recovering from a recreational high. They proceeded to get him dressed and fed, and then escorted him to the training facility. Upon arrival - which was now over 120 minutes behind schedule - Michael began complaining about fatigue, and then insisted that he'll unlikely be able to finish the full range of physical activities that had been planned for him that day.
As the Heat coaching staff made their way into the gymnasium, they ran across the Oklahoma City Thunder training staff and had a quick glimpse of Russell Westbrook's highly intensive workout. Westbrook had been there since 7am and was still going full velocity. He was drenched in blood, sweat, and tears, and was still going at a pace never seen before.
That's when the Heat coaching staff realized they had fked up.
Its strange because they are both very flawed players ironically because of what's between the ears. Beasley under another team might have flourished, who knows. Westbrook here would have been interesting, and hopefully would have changed mentally with Wade as his mentor if they clicked.
