Those players are coming off a covid college year so they are behind in the developmental curve but it's still disappointing how Suggs has looked. The way he is playing there is basically zero chance he turns into a superstar. Every superstar in the last 30 years has been fairly effective in his rookie year with Nash, Giannis and Dirk being the worst. You need to have a certain basic level of play to really be a stud. I could see him turn into a solid to good player but I don't every see the special player.

Not trying to sound like the smartest guy in the room but this is the same Suggs that played at Gonzaga. Nothings different he struggled there too. He also showed flashes of brilliance athletically, defensively, making long threes and clutch shots and I'm sure as the season plays out we will see more of that but its just really hard as a guard sharing the court with Cole Anthony and RJ Hampton to really shine, especially as a rookie and with the new rule changes.

But yeah the school he played at "Gonzaga" is notorious for being able to mask a players weaknesses and make them appear effecient and well rounded. They have a weak schedule, tons of depth, great facilities and they fly private plus Mark Few's system allows players to play to their strengths and be well rested. Suggs struggled with shooting consistency and turnovers all season.

Summer league. Sugg is overrated, he was carried in Olympics and College by his teammates. Watch him get exposed in Magic this season.

lol dead on.

Six pages in and it still seems pretty level headed and fair, tbh.

No thread on RealGM survives ten pages with devolving into a bunch of nonsense.

First page real estate from August, but only half right :(

tbf to Suggs, he's been hurt a lot and I do think his athleticism and feel for the game will translate well eventually, but his shooting is really limiting him.

Thank god the Raps FO is smarter than all of us.

when has he ever looked good? He's been one of the worst rookies and can't shoot at all nor drive by NBA level athletes. Good defender but horrendous offensively.

Not worried about the percentages and high TOs since that is a rookie guard staple but a lot of his defensive ability from college has translated. The Magic have a logjam at PG and will have to sort that out.

I guess that guy simple jack doesn’t post here anymore

I was always team Barnes but I think Suggs will be a tremendous defensive guard and if the shooting comes around he will have a good career.

Yes I think Suggs can be a solid role player. Thankfully Masai had higher ambitions.

What this thread proves is that people shouldn’t get excited about Summer League performances. Jalen Green and Jalen Suggs looked unbelievable in the Summer League and they have been by far the most disappointing rookies this year. Meanwhile people were claiming Franz Wagner was heading to China after his rookie contract because of how he looked in Summer League.

Got to give Barnes credit, he looked bad offensively in college but has been the best rookie on both ends especially since the break.

This is an especially good one.

We have seen how short sighted this management team has been since Kawhi left so it's not a surprise that a singular bad workout played a part in them passing on a much better prospect. It's incredible how you can ignore the obvious game tape because you get enamored by some length and athleticism.

I'll put this in here too to counter all the tWo takes.

First. After the first two pre-season games.

Ahh yes, the 'at the time undrafted prospect decided to tank his draft stock and give up hundreds of thousands of dollars to not play for a team that he says he loved'.

That was such an epic, and extremely raptors-boardy, thread.

I was in favour of taking Suggs over Barnes. Glad Scottie was the pick looking in hindsight. That being said, Suggs as a Raptor would be a different player than the one playing in Orlando; especially with Toronto's better development. The Magic have him primarily as a shooting guard, when he should really be the Point Guard with the ball in his hands. However, the Magic have Anthony at the Point. Watching him play a couple of games in Orlando, his defense had been solid, but he looks much better when he has the ball in his hands when Anthony is not on the court. He is 6 foot 3 (6 foot 5 in shoes), but his game does not translate well as a Shooting Guard. I think the Magic should deal Anthony in the off-season, since both guys do not fit well together on the court.

This. Posters here can't just be satisfied with Scottie being a star, they have to trash Suggs to feel better. He is a stud, his shot will come around and he'll have a fine career. Playing on a bad team and injury hasn't helped
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.
