Well, he was half right. The decision to take Barnes over Suggs will dominate the evaluation of the Raps last off-season. It's just that his evaluation was the exact opposite one that it should have been. Lol

Didn’t feel like he was involved all that much. Why is Fred taking 21 shots and he only 13? He should have the ball more initiating offense, too.

Lots of people around here agreed with Pelton at the time IIRC.

I've said this repeatedly though Suggs (pre draft) was basically the point guard version of Barnes. The scouting reports were basically the same. Both players were transition players who were noted for their defense, both could pass and both really struggled in the half court.

In many respects, in terms of the pre draft Barnes was pretty much billed as a 6"9 Jalen Suggs in terms of strengths and weaknesses but with no draft hype like Suggs had.

There was a poster in the off-season who said he watched Barnes in college a lot and he was 100% sure Barnes will be a flop.

cant wait to see year 2 barnes in action. Him and Siakam will be a good 1 - 2 punch in the front court.

Barnes and Siakam will be our Tatum and Brown.

If that would have been the consensus, Suggs either would have been outside the lottery or Barnes would have been the #1 selection.

Deep draft.. I dont think the three teams picked ahead of Barnes trade their picks for him either.... all playing great now...

Top 4... interesting to review in two years...

AbC? wrote:What angle does Mobley have now for winning ROY? Barnes raw numbers are better, his advanced stats are even or better, he's finishing the season strong while Mobley's out, the Raptors have a better record than the Cavs, and it was clear his defensive impact was mostly due to playing with Allen. Even his offensive numbers are inflated playing with Garland, elite playmaker who can make a G-leaguer like Moses Brown look good.

It's crazy how the silly "generational defender, should be in the running for DPOY/all-star" narrative that was established early is so difficult to overcome despite Barnes' body of work and Mobley's decline before injury.

This is not to say Mobley's not going to be an amazing player, I was Mobley or bust going into the draft. But his hype got blown way out of proportion.

Cade has raw numbers on brutal efficiency, sucked for half the season and really only had one good month, shouldn't even be in the conversation unless you want to give Jalen Green a look too.

Objectively Barnes should win. There is no logical reason for Mobley anymore. But the perception for some is going to be same stats but Mobley is all defensive on defense and therefore better.

Can't wait until the 2022/2023 season when Scottish moves up in The Pecking Order and takes a huge step forward to make the Raptors better.

No more being miscast, and guys can play their proper roles.

The guy dropped 19/14 on only 13 shots and without many plays run for him. This is his FLOOR. Right now, he's basically just a roamer out there who gobbles up random opportunities in transition and in the paint. His touch/finish around the rim is already strong, if/when he develops a consistent midrange game, it's all over.

Lets hope they actually run plays for him next year. This hasn't happened all year.

No research done, but it seems like over half of his buckets come from the offensive boards. Or a breakaway dunk.

When the rock is in his hands...good things happen. Doesn't always directly lead to a good shot or buckets....but man to have a playmaker that can get to the bucket to draw fouls, look for his own shot, or be tall enough to see the court...HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MAN

I'd be interested to see how the NBA.com rookie ladder looks like today. No Mobley and Cade played 1 game and 8 minutes in another.
