I agree with that as well, but he didn't need to say it is all. Just ball out like you've been doing and let the chips fall first, then comment.

For me, the important thing he said on the JJ pod was about the City going crazy the first time he got on the court, and his response. He don’t look like a fragile big on borrowed time right now. Fingers crossed.

If we run the table I think he gets. He HAS to show out tonight.

He has to win the scoring title and we have to win out for him to have any chance IMO. He needs a big game tonight along with the win.

I don't think he wins either. I think he finishes second. He needed to be the runaway favorite either in terms of seeding, or ppg. It's just too hard to beat the advanced stats brigade and the narrative doesn't seem to be on his side this year like some other guys. You have Doris Burke on national television gawking over "RAPTOR" stats. The beautiful game I once knew is gone.

I think he locks it up tonight IF he has a big game and we win. I think to be in the MVP conversation you have to pull out a few clutch performances throughout the season and they have to be against the better teams of the league. Nobody cares that Embiid scores the final 8 points in a game against the Pelicans to beat them. But if he goes out there tonight and dominates a Toronto team that not only has had our number over the last three years, but is also on a hot streak... THEN, it makes a big time statement and he gains significant traction towards the MVP award. I think tonight is his last chance to really lock it down. If he chokes tonight then it's going to go to Giannis or Jokic and rightfully so because those guys show up when the games matter the most. Embiid will join that conversation by beating Toronto tonight. That's just my take on it. Aside from historical numbers like averaging a triple double for the year, or a runaway 65+ win season, it's going to take winning games like this and having a memorable performance doing so to get the award. It's how Iverson was able to get it when he won it, although that award quite possibly should have gone to Shaq that year.

This. Advanced stats are great, but to blindly follow these BLACK BOX stats that NO ONE KNOWS how they're calculated is absurd.

It would help if this game was on national TV, but Bucks-Celtics gets that nod, and now watch Giannis go off for 44-18 in a big Bucks win.

Do these advanced stats voters even watch the games?

Not enough to justify having a vote. Most of them just follow whatever Zach Lowe says instead of doing the work to form an opinion on their own.

I don't watch or listen to any of these people, who is Zach Lowe pushing for MVP?

Apparently this is the MVP tally of real voters.

Keep in mind, they are still updating this.

E.G. says Simmons voted Joker, but the source was a podcast from the 3rd of APril. He is on record on the 6th saying he's not sure, and has Jokic and Embiid tied now, given Embiid's recent performances.

Still good to look at none the less.

After last night im pretty sure he aint winning.

Giannis should win it, if not then Jokic.

If Biid wins it it will be because of voter fatigue.

Its really a close race and all 3 of them have been awesome this season, but i think Giannis is clearly the best player in the league and Jokic has historic stats while playing without another star and nearly the same record.

The VORP/Glarp/Crap stuff, is basically a bunch of ****.

The NBA media, doesn't know how to use NBA advanced stats in context, as a result, they have jumped on Jokic who is a superstar, but is not really what the nerds are building him up to be.

At this point it would be annoying if Joel won it, bc we're looking at a first round exit, and losing in the first round when you're a quote unquote MVP is super embarrassing.

Dirk lost in the first round. MVP year. He most definitely deserved that MVP.

I agree except that Embiid hasnt exactly played with a star either this season. Turdbias has never been one. Maxey is good but still young and figuring it out while Harden is no longer what he once was.

That's pretty shocking, lol. Some people do act as if these stats are designed by god and not put together by people doing their best to define the concept of value. The worst part is, they can't be tested against anything. There's no way of determining how accurate any of these metrics are outside of individuals measuring them against their biases:
I think Ja Morant is good and metric confirms it = metric good
I think Coby White is good and metric refutes it = metric bad
Hopefully we're reaching the end of people taking them seriously. They're fun for fans to look at, and I admit I go to the advanced section of a player's bref page all the time, but I'm a nobody and no one takes my opinion on basketball seriously.
