hope for lottery luck, both in the lottery itself and in picking the right player

if Detroit would accept the Milwaukee pick and trade Grant for the Portland's big TPE, do that. But if not, then use the pick on a forward and give Dame, Billups, and the new roster a year to see if it gels and shows good upside. And approaching next year's trade deadline Portland 21M and 6.5M TPE's might have great value. Then, in the summer of 2023 Simons will no longer be BYC and all options can be open without structural obstacles

the first step was dismantling that dead-end roster. The 2nd step is some patience
I'm happy with this.

I really do want to keep Dame.

I just don't want to trade away our foreseeable draft picks on 'eh' players to try and make some noise. If a genuine All Star players becomes available (a player like Vucevic is not who I consider a genuine All Star), then that's another story.

The last 2 teams that traded away all their picks were the lakers and bucks and they both won the title the same season. I’m here for the now, and if that’s what it takes LFG. Regardless, since all our picks are locked up until we make it back to the payoffs it’s irrelevant.

I would trade every pick and pick swap legally allowed and every player on the team not named Lillard if we got back 2 more top 20-25ish players.

I’m feeling like Apollo Creed and the “blow it up” / “mortgage our future” guys are Rocky right now.

5 years ago Olshey could’ve traded for PG or Butler (Haynes confirmed this in a spaces on twitter), and Olshey wasn’t willing to mortgage our future for a possible one year rental. He did the same with Holiday and Harden as well. Well, 5 years later we’re in the lottery and our picks are locked up anyways. You ALWAYS go for the win. But maybe that’s my hyper competitive Capricorn nature. It’s like Gretzky said, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

I'm kind of skeptical the Blazers use their full-MLE because if they do, they'll be hard-capped. And after re-signing Simons & Nurkic plus whatever they do in initial trades, they will probably be close enough to to going into the tax that being hard-capped might very well foreclose on the opportunity to use the 30M in TPE's they have

so they might only use the tax-MLE which doesn't hard-cap a team. The difference between the tax-MLE (6.3M) and the full-MLE (9.8M) is pretty substantial, but when I look at the list of free-agents I only see about 3 or 4 worthy of the full-MLE. And there will be at least half the league, if not more, with either the cap-space or the full-MLE making the use of the full-MLE a seller's market. Portland is unlikely to be one of the winners in that kind of market.

I think the Blazers can find a decent player for 6.3M

**********************************************************************

Hayward would be a decent add, but he's injured a lot...a whole lot. I like Winslow as a cheap bench player with versatility and would be a bit reluctant to give him up. Of course, Winslow has been injured a lot too

my math says that trade won't work and the Blazers would have to add salary. So that would mean Louzada, Brown, or Watford. By the way, the Blazers have the 36th pick, not the 37th. I wouldn't add it for Hayward. And that trade doesn't save much money for Charlotte this season (about 5-6). But it would add 20M in salary to the Blazers and I don't think they can afford that big a jump

**************************************************************************

speaking of payrolls and flexibility...I am hoping that Cronin (or whoever the GM is) won't repeat the mistake Olshey made several times and that't bidding against himself for free agents. I am skeptical that Simons could command more than 20-23M in the open market, or Nurkic command more than 13-15M. I hope that, combined, they fall into the 35-40M/year range. Will be really bummed if they get more than 43-45M

I would not be shocked if Orl offered Ant a max deal, in fact I expect them to. Detroit could as well, which would be ironic if we trade for Grant giving them extra cap space to make the offer.

There's a HUGE difference between PG and Butler. They actually would have been expected to turn the needle.

Portland would simply match the max offer. It's very likely both Nurk and Ant have agreed to the outlines of
their new deals and everyone is just waiting for the green light for the deals to get signed.

If Simons gets offered the max, I will drive him to the airport.

I had no problem with Portland getting in on the Kawhi Leonard market back when he was demanding a trade from the Spurs. I think it's really **** dumb to try to manufacturer that same scenario with players that are clearly inferior to him. Beal, Lavine etc. are all way worse than good old Kawhi, **** even the Harden scenario a few years ago I would have considered mortgaging the Blazers future for but that ship has sailed.

If we aren't getting an elite player to pair with Dame it's not worth losing what we have. All of these supposed teams would only sniff the NBA Finals on a lucky streak where each team they face past the first round is missing key players.

C'mon now, no team is going to allow another team sign one of their players to a max contract when they
were a RFA.

Portland matched the max type of contracts to Batum and Crabbe and those teams have to strip down their rosters
in order to be in position to offer the max contract. They'd lose their rights to their guys for no gain which is why
I've been skeptical Simons will get any max offers.

Most likely Simons will end up with a deal similar to what Powell signed for last off season.

You think Simons will get a deal w/ a Y1 of 15M?!

Man I wish. No way he gets less than 22M IMO.

I’ve been wrong before but I expect he will get offers north of NPs contract.

I wonder what it would take to get Bogdanovic is Utah rebuilds.

Does Bledsoe + 36 get it done? BB and Winslow at PF is pretty complimentary, doesnt add long term salary either.

I do think the broad outlines of Simons and Nurk's deals are all done and just waiting until the league is once
again open for business for they would never agreed to sit out the remaining 15 or so games left in the season.

What those numbers are remain to be seen but its numbers that the team is comfortable with offering and in
the case with Simons, is likely tailored to Portland's cap situation as opposed to another team's offer which
would likely contain a poison pill.

I do think the smaller sample of Simons breakout season precludes a max contract. Those other teams like
Detroit and Orlando would have to strip their rosters down by renouncing guys they wish to keep just to offer
Simons a max contract. Detroit for example would have to renounce Bagley who they just traded some picks
for just to fail to get Simons.

Oubre could likely be had for the Bledsoe contract and maybe a 2nd round pick. If you're bringing in Grant, Oubre makes sense as another swing forward. Not the most likeable front court bug
Dame
Ant
Oubre
Grant
Nurkic

Could be dynamic enough to make some noise.

I think Oubre is the exact type of player that Chauncey and the FO are trying to get away from.

If Dame really wants the two way player with size, there are three of them (4 if you view Murray as a PF)in this draft. Either get lucky or trade your way into the top 3.

The only real, immediate needle mover I see is Pascal and that is if Masai wants to go young. I would offer quite a haul for him, especially if we can keep Hart (Harder to match salaries w/o him)

Pascal for Bledsoe, Winslow, Keon, Didi, #6, 2025 MIL FRP, $$$ (To buy out Didi)

Then sign Taurean Prince to the TP MLE, resign Ant + Nurk, hope Utah blows it up and offer TPE + 36 for BB

G - Damian Lillard (34) / Anfernee Simons (14)
G - Anfernee Simons (18) / Josh Hart (30)
F - Taurean Prince (24) / Nas Little (24)
F - Pascal Siakiam (24) / Bojan Bogdanovic (24)
C - Jusuf Nurkic (28) / Pascal Siakiam (10) / Drew Eubanks (10)

That can win a ring IMO.
