I can see the rationale behind the idea but then you also lose Durant.

If he could trade Ben Simmons first (he can't), it wouldn't be dumb. Especially if Durant would be okay with it and based on how they played together in the post season, he might be.
I'd have serious concerns about signing any of Harden, Beal, or Kyrie to five-year vet max deals. What are the chances they're worth all that money over the lives of those contracts?

What if you offer Irving a deal, but not a 35% max deal? Something that he has a chance to play up to, like 4/$120M. Of course there's a risk he walks, but who's offering him more?

Workers paid more can often be more happy and productive in their jobs, making it worth paying them more.
It is typically the case in stuff like say Starbux versus McDonalds workers, but... If you are worried a max contract Kyrie isn't worth it, imagine how much less invested he would act if you told him he was a 25m a year player and not a 35m a year player?
I think years are debatable, but actually saying to him he isn't worth the max; I just don't see a scenario where that works out well for the team. And not just not well, but not worse than offering the max but maybe holding firm on 3-4 years and not 5.

I don't think it cost much. I mean Kemba/Burks/2nd rounder? Something like that. Conley has looked really old in the playoffs.
Also, please strike out on Jalen.

I think it just depends on what Utah ends up doing this offseason. If they tear it down a bit, maybe NY could sneak out with a Kemba/Noel/future Pistons 2nd for Conley? Or maybe a Fournier is the salary matching instead for extra value to Utah? Or… there’s a lot of permutations here based on what Utah wants to do.

Thanks. I don't think our FO would want to pay much to use Fournier instead of Burks...as I assume that Utah would start asking for a FRP or one of the kids we like in that case, right? But maybe if we're talking about a pickswap and they don't like the talent left at 11/12? Assuming that's the case, Kemba + Burks/Noel + #42 (or future SRP) seems like a decent enough plan C for us at the PG spot.
...though it would be mildly annoying if we ended up having to go that route again; regardless of whether Conley's has any more left in the tank than Kemba did a year ago

I'd do expirings + 2nd for Conley, we need to reset. Think he has more in the tank.

Grayson Allen, George Hill, filler? For Conley

I'm not a fan of Kyrie but you can't let a big time asset walk, especially one that brought KD to your team and brings this much attention to your team.
You have to show the NBA that Brooklyn looks after star players, that's your market.
